Well boys and girls I think I am about to just throw in the towel and get myself a Buick wagon !!

My stock R1 LSD was torn up so I got myself a KAAZ LSD with a set of 4.33 gears. Put it all together and now the pinion is sitting too low in the crown wheel, I painted the CW in yellow and the Pin in red and rolled them to see how they mated together. I tried adjusting the crush washer on the pinion and as best as I can to get the spacing but that's it. only other thing that can be done to adjust the backlash and spacing of the teeth are the two spacers or shims on either side of the LSD itself and it's bearings. ..sure enough unlucky me.. I need shims now.

Presently, one shim is 246 thousands and the other one is 276 thousands.. the replacement shims must total the same width but they each must be of different thickness such that the LSD will move off center causing the crown wheel to move back away from the pinion teeth to get the backlash required and the spacing of the teeth of both.

NOW, Where the heck do you get shims other than the stock ones ??

..and NO, you can't grind off one side to move it because the bearings will not be properly loaded.

Please Advise,

..man, sometimes I hate living in the Caribbean..it's so hard to get parts easily.

have you checked mazdatrix ?

They didn't have anything ..not even the bearing for the OEM rear !! ..nor the crush washer.. nothing.

Someone just PM'd me from the "other forum" and said that Madza has a 6-10 piece OEM shim kit.. a bit costly though.. gonna' check on this now..

TIA,

Yea mazda should have a whole bunch of shims available, I would home at least. I know when I put the locker in my Jeep it came with shims.

instead of going to a dealer... try and find a local "drive line"/ trans shop. they should be able to help you out with shims for much less $$$

I think this is why most people in Japan

just buy the whole diff. Hummmm maybe

I can look into that.
