I'll be the first to admit that I know jack about wheel and tire sizes, and I realize this is a problem for building my car. Hah.

I'm not sure if I should try to run wider tires in the back or not. I'm expecting 350+ hp at the wheels.

Some people have suggested running at least 8" wide tires for hopes of traction, but I don't exactly know how to properly measure my wheel wells to make sure such a tire would fit.

I want the car to be fun to drive and to me that means the ability to track it and take it in the mountains as well as running competitively at the strip among friends and stuff.

So, oh wheel/tire gods, what should I do? https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/blink.png

Okay let me restrict the possible results for wheels and tires to 17" wheels. Simply because the set I want come in 15" or 17", 16" would be ideal but alas...

CrassFC3S 06-22-2005 07:48 PM

17... what widths??? i mean if you break it down youll know a little easier, also what type of driving you can do easily depends on the tire, you dont want to do serious driving with a nice soft racing compound tire if youre gonna DD the car, i run 245 40's on the rear of my fc all season's and theyre plenty fun but im not much into drag racing or hard launches other wise id spin these BAD

Alright the car will NOT be a daily driven car. More like a fun night/weekend ride.

17x7, 17x8, 17x9 are my choices!

CrassFC3S 06-22-2005 10:06 PM

i know 17x8's fit on my fc perfect, some 245-255 with a nice sticky tire would go for some nice launches and traction... 255 is probably your best bet at 350 whp lol and even then without a sticky tire you will spin the **** out of em

17s? I was thinking 14x9 or 14x10s or 15x9s and 15x10s old school panasports

Oh but I'm in much deeper than that...I have FC 5lugs!

Shane.Trammell 06-23-2005 10:04 AM

did you ever do the write up on that 5 lug swap?

a buddy has 285s on the back of his fd and was breaking traction at about 300 whp. the tires are yokohama avs. he didnt break traction until full boost, which came pretty abruptly

I say I have 5lugs but they haven't been put on yet...a machine shop is working on a collar to mate the FC innerbearing to my spindles...there will be a writeup once they get put on. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/bigok.gif

5 lugs? even better. I suggest panasport 15x8 and 15x9 if they fit under your fender.

just to give you an idea about tire size, Im runinng 225/50/15 in the rear now and had 225/40/16 in the rear before and both fit with no rubbing, the front is a diffrent story though because of the springs, bump and turn and so one, I have a 1 inch drop and 205/40/16 tend to rub the front fender lips and the present 205/50/15 rub also if there is a turn and bump at the same time. Just a heads up.

Hmmm so 8" wide in the front is too much, but fits the rear just fine?

How much would unmatched tire widths effect handling?

CrassFC3S 06-28-2005 12:20 AM

8 in the rear is fine only rubs on hard cornering on very un even surfaces with stock n/a suspension.... 245 40's. it handles 10009309288478 better over stock and the staggered sizes wont make it handle shitty unless theyre WAY different like 295 and 195 lol

is that on a 1st gen or 2nd gen? when you say 245/40's, that must be in 17's, I havent seen such tire in 15 or 16. If they are made in either 15 or 16 let me know what brand cuz I would be intrested in a set..........ohhh and just in case this comes out wrong, Im not trying to be rude, Im just curious because 225/40/16 was the widest low profile I could find when I was searching for some new Kuhmos.

Dysfnctnl85 06-28-2005 11:25 AM

CrassFC3S 06-29-2005 12:22 PM

theyre kumho asx (some all season things haha) they were hella cheap and the wheels and tires are both just holding the space for my volk gtu hehe so i bought 245 40 17 's in the back for 117 a tire and 225 45 17 in the front for 99 a piece, check them out im sure they have some decent sizes, look on www.discounttiredirect.com
