Hey guys,



I running AutoX in my 86 NA and does pretty well, but I have a problem in tight cornering. The front of the car "pushes" or does not turn well enough, it just slides. Are there any camber adjustments I can make to improve the cornering characteristics besides changing to a soft compound tire.



I have seen some pics of RX-7's with, I think it is negative camber, of the rear suspension. (wheels tipping in at the top) it is possible to adjust the front the same way? Or is that desirable for racing? Any suggestions or comments would be helpful.

One cheap method to get your car to rotate a little nicer would be to install some Toe Eliminator bushings in the rear.



They cost about $40 and are about the same cost to get installed.

try going a little slower into the turn. slow in fast out. you can rotate the upper strut mounts to the rear inboard position (they are eccentric) that will give you max camber. i'm kind of assuming you're in stock class.

I looked at the FSM for the upper strut mount. I have yet to look at the car to see if there are any white marks as listed in the FSM. You are reffering to the white mark when you say rotate to the rear inboard position? What about the Toe Eliminator that Geoffman72 mentions?



And yes I am in the stock class. I want to improve my driving skills BEFORE I modify the car. The cheapest way for me to get faster times is to learn to drive the car. I don't have the cash to buy "sticky" tires ans competition suspension components



Anybody else have some suggestions?

you could get two adj shocks in the front



shouldnt be more than $150-$200 and its pretty easy to install

Try different tires, and try not to shift the weight of the car to the front wheels as you enter a turn, this as said before is accomplished by early breaking. Remember, as you approach the point where you have to start turning the wheels into the corner, you shouldn't be braking, at that point you should be "feathering" the throttle and getting ready to floor it towards a straight or whatever. Early braking is the key to understeer, you're oversteering to much because you're taking the corners way to fast.

and yes thats generally when you should be preparing your launch out of the corner. although technically before you even get to the corner you should be preparing your strategy and launch for the corner.



i swear im the only person in my "clique" of drivers who doesnt go 'outside, apex, outside'... i find it easier to go 'inside, apex, outside' but thats probably just because it suits me.

No Kev, I didn't mean the apex of the corner, I meant the outside before he turns into the apex. I go outside, apex, outside and that way it is easier to see the turn before actually going into it. He should be on the accelerator at the same moment he starts to turn the wheels toward the corner aiming at the apex.

Thanks for the tips guys. I understand the concept now. You are right. I have not been accelerating through the turns, just kind of coasting, and then accelerating after I'm through the turn. I will remember accelerate and turn at the same time!!!!!!!!



BTW I have been competing against a Porsche 944 in my E Stock Class and the basterd beat me by .04 seconds last week. I vow to never let that happen again.
