Will a 16-17 lbs 17" wheel bend on the street? Is it too light? Im thinking of getting some 5zigen fn03 r-c, I think thats what there called. Just thought that they might bend/warp easy. Is 5zigen a good quality?

light weight isn't always an accurate gauge of a wheels strength. forged wheels are some of the strongest yet lightest around.



but to generalize 17 lbs sounds good for a 17" wheel. 16" I'd like to see 15lbs.

if you're concerned about damage on the street you might want to consider getting multipiece wheels. You're likely to just damage the rim @ the outer periphery, which makes a multipiece setup handy. You can replace the periphery while keeping the hub, usually saving money in the process. BBS makes some nice light wheels for racing use that are designed this way, the outer part is basically treated as a consumable. It also gives you the ability to change the offset and width of the wheel without replacing the whole thing.

hmmm that's not a bad idea, how are they held together. i think i've seen some with alan heads on them??? I wonder if there is alignment issues??

they just bolt together, I've seen them with hex socket, torx socket, hex head, and star head. The BBS wheels I believe use titanium bolts to keep the weight down.



While I was at Grattan one of the star mazda race cars hit the wall and damaged one of the wheels, only the outer part sustained damage and the driver only had a $200 peice to replace instead of the whole thing (I believe it's a $500 wheel). This, of course, doesnt include the suspension components and steering rack which were fooked in the wreck. The car was running on BBS race wheels. I think Fikse makes similar modular wheels too.

ok, I like the idea of being able to repair the rim for more affordable, but what about the weight?? how do they compare to your average 1 piece forged rims?

haha, if I had the money to buy 3 piece wheels, I would be aksing questions about some $210. 5 zigen wheels. If I had the money i would buy the kenesis. But I need something to get me buy for right now until i get the kenesis:)

Also will a 265/35/18 work for a 18X9? I think im going to go ahead and get the 18's maybe.

nevermind, they dont carry that wheel in a 18X9" width.
