So last month I got pulled over by Prince William County Police (VA)- no surprise. I hit a green light, ran the car to 5K in first, and coasted to second. Well an undercover cop was sitting at the light. He chased me down with lights and the siren blaring. I asked him what the problem was when he walked up. He took awhile, observed the 5" tach and the number from the track I raced at with my friend from the night before. He went to a big questioning session asking if I was involved with any street racing clubs, etc... which all was no. He walked back to his car; walked back to my car 5 mins later and said my exhaust was too loud. I am running a RB street header, Bonez cat, and two cherry bombs. He wrote me up for a "defective equipment" charge. It is a $92 ticket!

My court date is Monday. I got a written statement from the local shop that states my exhaust is sealed with no leaks. Did anyone get charged with this before? Do you think this is good enough to get me off?

Doesn't sound like the setup would be loud unless those cherry bombs have been melted and destroyed by the heat of the rotary...which they could be. Unless you can measure how many decibels the setup makes, and its within a legal limit, you're likely still going to be on the hook. Of course the fact that he claimed your exhaust was too loud after so long and when you were at idle makes me think he just wanted to give you a fine for anything.

Unfortunately, there's no law that states that tickets are void if the officer was an *******.

They are a little old; it is probably time for some new glass packs. I was looking up in the VA law codes about exhaust systems. They just put into effect last year a law that states you can not have an exhaust system louder then stock. The hook I'm hoping for is that the ticket did not state anything about the exhaust but stated as "defective equipment". I got documentation that the exhaust is working fine. I just hope the judge sees the logic.
