how does it work, a forum owned by a company?
It depends on the forums purpose. If you are looking at a company forum that supports a product or a product line, then yes the forum mods are usually employees of the company, however they usually have another job within the company.
Forums that just sell advertising, banners, etc.... and don't use the forum as an outlet for their products usually use volunteers in the lower level administration and have one admin who is an employee keep a handle on them.

it is amazing, a totally make believe way to make a living, you do not have many employees, no product, no service.
You wait for someone ELSE to build a site, get followers- then you come in and pay them peanuts for the site.
Sell advertising and links, etc..
No insurance, no workers comp, no storefront, nothing.
******* genius I tell you- and the BEST part ? THEY MAKE THE ******* SOFTWARE that everyone else uses anyhow

There seems to be a lot of buying lately. I've had several people contact me and want to buy this shitbox and a couple of forums I hang out on have been bought out, which if it's buy some place like internet brands I quickly move to another smaller forum.
