I'm new to the RX-7, i just bought my first a week ago. I'm having problems first with a high idle. The idle control screw is loosened all the way and the car still idles at around 1300. secondly, the engine has a miss which is very noticeable due to vibration and a leaky cat. I changed the plugs and wires are next. Also it seems randomly at around 3000 rpm in all gears the engine bogs down and wants to stall. I know very little about the rx-7 and the rotary motor any and all help would be appreciated.

too drunk to know a thing about your fast idle problem... but as far as your rotary is concerned dont get timid, all engines pretty much run off of the same concept: suck, squeeze, bang, blow (so do hookers but...) tackle the basics:

suck: vacuume leaks? fuel delivery?

squeeze: compression check? *read how to compression check a rotary, its different.

bang: spark? timing? fouled plugs?

Blow: (doubtful but...) exhaust probs.?

sounds to me like its more fuel/spark related, but have a go, do the checks, see what you find out, we'll fill you in on rotor quirks but most of all post till she's fixed. all the info you need is on this forum; use that search button to your advantage.

good uck bud,

If your idle screw is loosened then you should tighten it, the tighter it gets the lower the idle gets.

The high idle was caused by something binding in the throttle linkage. Im still pretty pissed about the miss... also, anyone know a good place to get a street legal bolt-on replacement cat for one of these???
