Will i need either with a Haltech, and if so which ones do guys recommend?

while im on the subject of turbos.----- will i need both a wastegaste and bov? i know what each one does, just do they work in conguction w/ each other? and will i need a boost controller if i have either/both?

I'm not sure if the Haltech has a boost control function(I'm sure it does, but I'm a PFC guy). If not, you will need the boost controller to control the wastegate if you want to run higher boost. If not, then just use the spring to open up the wastegate. Boost controller is independent of BOV since it doesn't have anything to do with it.

Wastegate/BOV are on opposite sides of the spectrum. Wastegate's are on the exhaust side while BOV are on the intake side. They work independent of each other. I would suggest both...you'll need the wastegate since you don't want to run full boost ALL the time :o Depending on who you talk to, the BOV is subject to user discretion. However, our cars did come stock with it there, and most if not all of the higher HP rotary's use one so it's best that us measily 400 rwhp people use one too B)

Try out the Haltech boost controller. You don't really need a turbo timer, unless you can't sit in the car for a minute while it idles, etc.

you need a boost controller! haltech can control boost with a boost control solenoid that is optional. however i don't think its that great. better off going with like a profec b or manual boost controller

i think haltech might support a boost controller, you would have to look at their site though.

you dont need a boost controller to use a turbo timer.

a boost controller simply monitors the boost and then allows boost pressure to reach the wastegate once youve reached your desired pressure. theyre good for more agressive boost curves b/c your regular mechanical wastegate will start opening a few psi short of what the spring is set for, this results in wasted power and slower turbine spool up.

your boost controller eliminates all that and you wont have to screw with different wastegate springs unless you plan to run with something less than what the spring is set at

ok, hmmm whats the price comparsion between a good manual boost controler vs the haltech solenoid. @ vos why do u think the haltech boost controller is no as good as manual ones??

vosko 08-04-2002 07:43 PM

i heard the haltech doesn't control boost very well

dude, manual boost controllers are cheap. less than $50
