I backed my car out and let it warm this morning for about 5-10 minutes. I came out and noticed a hot smell. Popped the hood to find my apexi single turbo glowing. I shut down right away and was looking for a moment to see what happened before I was late to work. The only thing I seen was the line from the boost controler to the wastegate was fried in two. I don't know if it got to close to the exhaust and melted during warm up or if it melted after the system overheated. If it melted afterward, WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED???
Thanks! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683561.gif |
hmmm you might be running lean as hell, but at idle i don't even know how that much air is going throught your turbo.
that's crazy, usually the only time i've seen them glow is under interstate pulls for 5 minutes at a time |
Boost Gauge, EGT Gauge, Wideband 02 Gauge. Get them before your engine blows apart. They'll help you diagnose your problems.

I did some calling around to some local techs and got some info back from Rotor Sports Racing. The guys there are great! I was told that sometimes with the apexi single setup that allows you to keep the air pump, the pump will inject to much air into the exhaust causing this problem. I guess it leans out the fuel mixture. After it started turning red, I unplugged the pump and it cooled off. Problem solved. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683329.gif
Guys, thanks for the input!!! |
Didn't realize you were from Salem, or I would have said get up with Brian at rotorsports. I did several things with my car up there. Glad you figured it out.
