ive been thinking about this for a little while so i guess ill go ahead and ask. how important is the exhuast side of a turbo? i know it propels the turbo but is that all? does it actually help get the exhuast out of the chamber or force it to exit the exhuast system any faster? seeing as how a vacuum wont work unless there is an open end for the air to be pulled through it doesnt seem like it would help getting the exhuast out of the chamber bc its sealed other than the exhuast port. anyways any opinions or experiences would be cool. basically im kind of asking what are the benefits of a turbo to a sc.

I'm a looong way from an expert here, but I'll throw in what I think I know about it.



If your exhaust side is too small, it will restrict exhaust flow and cost you power. If it's too big, the turbo will spool late and be rather inefficient.



I think turbos are more efficient than superchargers because they use energy that would be wasted anyway to force more air into the combustion chambers. The supercharger robs engine power to do the same thing.

thanks, that makes sense. what i am really wondering is if the exhaust side has only 1 purpose or if serves more than one purpose.

Turbine wheel has two purposes:

1 - spin the compressor

2 - quiet the exhaust a little



If you were asking "does it help pull out the exhaust gases", then no. It pretty much

impedes exhaust flow. Smaller turbine trim = more restriction, ditto for lower

A/R but to a smaller extent. Divided probably helps flow vs undivided by preventing

the exhaust streams from each rotor from tripping each other up. Also spools faster

by keeping the exhaust pulses strong.
