You could use a -3an, -4an will be fine too but I wouldn't go any bigger.

Yeah, going bigger will lead to alot of smoking. MY friend used a -6, and it was pretty embarrassing.

Ok, I know that going bigger causes a problem with the oil and results in smoking. But how much oil is consumed? Anybody care to explain why this occurs?

The oil pushes past the seals. A significant amoutn can be burned. I once had a stock turbo with bad seals, and it would burn about a quart every 100 miles.

From what little I know the oil return line should be much larger to allow the oil to circulate.

yea im running a -10 return line https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

The FD has a very high oil pressure, It doesn't matter what size the line is to the turbo, but you should have a oil restictor with a 1.8-2mm pin hole in it just prior to where the oil enters the turbo... Most turbo kits will have this in the 1/8 npt adapter that bolts to the top of the turbo.. you can also make one yourself by cutting a piece of thin aluminum to the shape of the flange and drilling a small hole in it centered where the oil inlet is on the turbo.. Then use a gasket on both sides of the piece you made...

as a side note, a couple drops of oil leaked in to the front pipe will make a cloud of smoke the size of your car..

Thanks a lot of mentioning this, I was wondering the same thing (what size orifice to use). What I did last night/today was make my oil line from the engine to the turbo. For the fitting on the block I cut the tube off the stock banjo bolt and welded a -4 male jic fitting on to it. For the fitting on the turbo I drilled the end of the banjo bolt for 1/16" pipe to allow a socket head pipe plug that I drilled a .081" orifice hole into. I figured I do it this way so I could "tune" the oil supply going to my turbo by simply changing out the orifice/pipe plug. To connect them both I used 1/4" tube that I had to bend to fit. Here is what it looks like.

Did u have the intake manfiold polished? If so where/how much. Looks like you have a custom fuel rail on there or but then again I have never seen a Re one..? If so where/how much? Looks nice, I used the stock unit, just cut all the hard vac lines off it for the oil feed line. I was considering doing it the way you did it, but I didn't see a good reason too. Looks sweet, you're in MN?!? What city if you don't mind me asking...

I just sandblasted the intake manifold and then used a clear high temp "ceramic" paint. I like it this way vs having it polished.

It's just the stock 13B-RE one. The RE uses side fed primary injectors.

I kinda wanted to make a new oil feed to the turbo to clean it up a little in there. I don't think the old one would work all that well anyways.

I'm in Lakeville, don't belong to any clubs but have been up to Jim lininhans (sp) house to see his turbo FB if you know who he is.

Coulden't help but notice that engine in your avatar... is that your 3-rotor?! If so NICE!
