ok guys, my car should be out today or tomo. so now, i'm looking for a single convert. my car is only driven on the weekends, so i don't mind if the car don't have to much streetabilty. now i'm looking at the greddy t-88, also the HKS t-51r ( i like HKS), also apexi, gt 35/40, and the feed. now the feed is also a t-88 turbo. what is the difference between the greddy and the feed, besides $5k. and what about the HKS units. again i really like HKS, i want to go with them cause i know they're parts fit great, and i've never had a problem with them. budjet doesn't really matter, i'm likely to make twice the money i'm making now in about 5-6 months. so i can have my car totally finished by the summer of 2004.

HKS T51R is a nice unit. it is designed for high boost though. maybe you want the HKS T04E or T04R. those are alot more streetable kits.

I'll have to concur. T-04R is probably the biggest I'll go on the street. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/boink.gif

sandmans7 10-11-2002 10:53 PM

lots of options. deciding can be hard. if money is no object call innovative turbo. they make a bunch of custom versions of stuff with dual ball-bearings. i would think the smaller wheeled large frame turbos with dual ball bearings and billet wheels with lightened spindles sounds like what i'd do if i started over.

another option. use the stock twin manifold and go with a smaller primary turbo and a larger -- medium sized -- ball bearing secondary. get someone to figure out a reworking of the changeover from primary to dual, using the controls available on the aftermarket ecu's instead of the solenoid based setup stock. in other words, when the haltech (motec, pfc, whatever...) sees reference boost of 2 psi ("X"), have it turn on the solenoid that brings the secondary online. more precise and all controled by the ecu and no ******* vacuum hoses. use an external wastegate.

just machine out the stock units and put in ball bearing wheels. put in a larger exhaust wheel on the secondary to get it to flow more. use the same ecu set up described above to bring the secondary online and an externmal wastegate.

these are just some ideas. the reason i'm throwing them out is that i think many of us get going in the wronmg direction. just buying bigger and better single turbos is not the only or right answer to each of our needs and desires. the biggest 51's and 88's and ball bearing gt3540's are not necessarily the best answers today. back when i went single in january of 1999, there were very few choices. the T78 and garrets were the only real choices in kits. there was only the motec and electromotive ecu's and they weren't being used on rotaries much (at all). today, there are infinite choiuces, but think creatively and not simply linearly. that is, think in more than 2 linear paths or diminsions. the most common being bigger and ball bearing or not.

i think there are a lot of possibilities using the stock twin hgousings, combioned with different wheels and different methods of actuating the secondary.

wow i think i should go and check out innovative.

The KAI is my favorite turbo, what's the big diff between the KAI and the SPL, anybody know?

ErnieT 11-02-2002 07:33 PM

If you have the money, the T51R KAI dual ball bearing would be my choice. Its now available in the States. Spools 1000rpms faster than the standard T51R KAI.

OR you could always go with the SR Motorsports KKK Stage 2.... :smirk:

TD07-25G, T04R or K27MOJ

racerguy180 11-04-2002 10:23 PM

IMO, if the car does not have to be streetable go with a T51R Kai BB. as for the difference between the Kai and the SPL is the compressor wheel size and entrance diameter. the Kai as a 94mm wheel and 70.3mm entrance, and the SPL has a 102.2mm wheel with a 76.5mm entrance, everything else is the same.

for my 7 i'm getting a Trust TD06SH-20G, it spools fast, gives a nice amount of power and it doesn't cost a shitload of $$$.

Untill it breaks and you can't get it overhauled.. a T04E is about the same size turbo as the TD06/20G and you can get overhaul parts for it easy.. and they are cheaper than the TD06..... Stay away from the Mitsubishi crap and buy Garret..

Anyone have any experience with the Blitz K27? Iv'e never heard of any RX7 run it and have always been curious about spool up time and maximum hp...

Dragon 11-06-2002 11:53 AM

I'm considering selling my T45S... but it's made for high boost.. e-mail me if interested... It will come with a T51S compressor, backplate and wheel as well if you want to convert it or if it ever eats it's self and you have to overhaul it.. :bigok:

Dragon 11-06-2002 12:06 PM

I'm going to sell my 62-1 just overhauled with all new parts as well.. .84 exaust .70 compressor...
