After lots of reading on here about tuning, timing, etc... I finally decided to take it out for some tuning today since it is now broken it. These are 1/2 to 3/4 throttle pulls in second gear.

This is one of the 255 wide Yokohama Advan A032R tires with almost no thread left. They give up the fight at 5K RPM every time. I have not opened it up in 3rd yet but I am worried there will be issues there too. The car is a monster, I cannot believe how hard she is hitting. I am wondering if my 10" wide Hoosier slicks are going to have enough traction for it now.

I am running 15 PSI right now but I think I am dropping it down to 10 PSI and see if its more drivable.

If you click Full screen and make the video bigger you can watch the tach jump from 4K to 8K RPM's instantly, I could not react fast enough to let out of it.

The internets travel faster then I can.

I knew if I posted that vid he would find out about it before I saw him. No worries though it was sort of a joking thing.

Having boost control issues so she is parked until I can sort it out. Might be a line run wrong or a ripped diaphragm.

The tires are Falken Azenis. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.gif

3 hours later, its fixed, hold rock steady at 10 PSI now, much more drivable now even with bald tires.

Ughhh! If you have never changed a wastegate diaphragm you have not lived through a frustrating exercise in sanity.

4 screws!! 4 Screws!! thats all it takes to change out the diaphragm. Its easy to get them off, real easy, then the huge spring inside is set free, then you have to push the cover back on against to pressure of the spring, keep the holes on the diaphragm lined up and the cover holes lined up, then with your 3rd hard screw in the damn screws!! Oh and I forgot to say that your under the car doing this, with the downpipe for the exhaust running about 10 millimeters away and doing all it can to get in the way. There is no room to work as well and no real way to get leverage.

This is only my second time doing this and my last, I am shopping for one of the new piston waste gates that have no diaphragms in them.

Well, the good news is its fixed, now once my final tire shows up I am done. Hmmmm.... there is a Autocross in 2 weeks......

RX7 13B 4 UR AZZ 01-09-2008 01:00 PM

auto cross that **** and tear it up https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.gif get that video in and when you get the tires raise the boost back up fucker ! ! !

Did you know you can fit 4 tires inside an RX7? I didn't think it was possible.

I am mounting them in the a.m.

I used to regularly fit 4 tires, 3-ton jack, and tool box in the 7. They were 15" wheels, however.

Car sounds awesome!

A quality C-clamp makes that job a snap Jim.

So your mechanic checked out your video on the internet and told you to check out the diaphragm? Or did he hear about it through the rumor mill? I know you're a pretty popular guy, so I wouldn't doubt that happening. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.gif

Jims5543 02-21-2008 03:20 PM

No 13B Starlet and I know each other we are both local. He is having a alcohol engine built at the same shop I had my engine built at. Plus there are a few local guys around here that lurk on NP but do not post and report my every move to my Mechanic / friend, JR.

When I posted the video I wondered if word would beat me to him about my pulls, the engine was just broken in and I knew JR was worried I was going to beat on it too soon and blow it.

I need to get some stop to 110 MPH pulls on tape. Its running great at WOT but still needs some cleaning up of the maps at mid throttle.

I am heading to Ft. Lauderdale for an Autocross this weekend I'll get some footage.
