would it be better to convert an RX-7 with a single turbo or just leave it as twin sequential? which would be better and why?

Depends on power goals you have for the car. If your looking for big power then single turbo is the way to go, you have many options when choosing turbo specs to suit your driving style. Stock twins weren't really designed to run high boost and make big power, they will not be reliable.

Single, less exaust back pressure = longer engine life and less chance of heat induced hot spots and pinging.. Even if you get a TO4E with a smaller exaust housing you will benifit from it... and you can get rid of all the sequential boost crap and the mess involved with the stock turbos...

i don't agree with saying that a seq twin can't make big power. if your pushing 350+ rwhp on a seq... that power comes right away... no lag. i think the single is very good if your doing alot of freeway driving ( open roads) but if your using this to drive everyday. in town, in traffic, and also on the freeway... i'd go seq twin. just my 2 cents

here is a post i started a while back... it has some very good points. take your time read though it.

Well I guess it kinda depends on what your definition of "big power" is. There is nothing wrong at all with keeping the stock twins, or having them non-seq. I thought my twins were great when I had all the bolt ons and was running 14psi, but once I took a ride in a single turbo rx7 running the same boost I was convinced. The apexi turbo or the xs to4e would my first choose if I was concerned with lag, there is barely any difference between them and the twins, except the power is going to be higher, less heat, and much more reliable and efficient.

I drive my To4R every day with a A/R 1.0 P trim exhaust, big side port, BIG exhaust port, lumpy idol at 1050-1150 rpm, solid engine mounts, solid diff mounts, solid tranny mounts, a ORC triple plate clutch, cusco diff, 315 Nittos on the rear, fairly stiff RSR suspension...

and when I push the gas the fucken car moves, sometimes sideways!

I'm sick of sissy’s bitching about boost lag, the suspensions too stiff, the car will vibrate... wawawawawawawawa! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...O_DIR#>/11.gif put a supercharger on your car if your worried about boost lag...

I'm sleepy and in a not so good mood... :smirk:
