Are you just curoius to how loud it can be for your personal taste, or just want some video clips to be able to hear it? Vented into the downpipe is basically gona sound however a normal exhaust setup sounds, depending on midpipe and catback. Vented into the atmostphere, regardless of midpipe and catback, will be loud and have sort of a "super bike" sound to it. At least thats what everyone always said my 7 sounded like with the wastegate vented into the atmosphere. Very very screaming loud.

Martin you turd. Once you go open wastegate, you won't go back

Very big, very loud superbike.

No other car can come close for sound level short of a race engine with very high compression and open exhaust.

im just concerned because i have already been pulled over cuz of the loudness of my car in my town...... and i had sequential, dp,mp and racing beat dual. unfortunately i was sitting at 4500rpm when i got pulled over.

im also considering resonating my midpipe https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/dunno.gif

maybe vented wastegate and resonated mid?

my car can be calm, until someone fucks with me

jspecracer7 04-13-2004 08:20 AM

a single setup will be quieter than the stock twins in N/S mode. A resonated midpipe(borla is what I had prior) will make it quieter of course.

TYSON 04-13-2004 08:28 AM

Vented wastegate will not affect your sound level while tooling around town, of course.

I don't think I've ever heard non-sequential twins, but my car will set off other car alarms just idling by in the underground parking, with a downpipe, midpipe and HKS Carbon/Ti catback.

The size of your turbine housing I'm sure has some effect on sound level.

FikseRxSeven 04-13-2004 08:30 AM

do you guys think its a good idea to have the wastegate vented to atmosphere and a resonated mid

considering the sound police around here?

seriously!! they just find a reason to pull me over cuz my car looks fast!!!

jspecracer7 04-13-2004 08:40 AM

As tyson stated, a vented wastegate has NOTHING to do with daily driving noise. If you bury the pedal, of course it's going to get loud. If you cruise...wastegate will never open.

94touring 04-13-2004 09:05 AM

If it were me, i'd go with a highflow cat/resonated midpipe and leave the wastegate open. Besides, if you are going fast enough for the wastegate to be wide open and screaming, if a cop sees you going that fast you are screwewd regardless of noise. Another nice touch I did to mine for less noise for cruising was the m2 dual exhaust, racing beat would have the same effect.

Agreed. My car would scare the **** out of people when the wastegate opened up. Nothing better than pulling up beside someone with their window down while i'm in full boost.

I'm glad our autocross course is out at the edge of a hick town! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

The Honda weinies just set up a series in downtown Toronto close to where they run the Molson Indy, but I don't think I'll be allowed to go. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...O_DIR#>/11.gif

dragon just suggested that i put an 18" pipe after the wastegate before it vents....

maybe muffle it https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

FikseRxSeven 04-13-2004 09:53 AM

I found this thread to be a very enjoyable read, as I was laughing at the thought of just how loud an open wastegate must be. That is definitely in my car's future when I replace the hybrid I'm running now. I'm rarely at full boost except at the dragstrip, and I sincerely doubt that I'll be the loudest car there.

I'm guessing the Borla that people are referring to is the XR-1 stainless race muffler. Summit and Jegs both carry it. It's the only muffler I have on my car, and it's loud, but not too loud at cruise. I've never been pulled, but I don't drive the car around that much and there's lots of rednecks in this area. Gotta love them rednecks! Yee Haw! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/bigok.gif
