How would you guys feel about that. Im trying to layout a bunch of options and I love the rotary, dont get me wrong, im thinking about during a generous rotary setup with a good turbo and a bunch of other stuff. BUT it has crossed my mind to drop in a piston in which case would be either SR20, 1JZ, 2JZ, or RB26. Maybe even RB25/RB20. This isnt certain at all, just throwing ideas back n forth in my head. Any thoughts?

From what I've seen of the RB26, it's a fairly tall engine. You may have trouble fitting it with the stock hood. Proly the same problem with the 1jz/2jz engine's as well. The SR20 should fit fine though. RB20 should fit as well, but it may be a little too long to fit intercooler/radiator up there as well https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/blink.png

I say go old school and use an FJ20DET with a T04R @ 1.8bar of happy pressure! Now that would be unique https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683473.gif

screw nissan, put a bp turbo in there, its almost a bolt in

bp? meaning bridge?

your talking a massive weight imbalance going with a RB26. You have to remember the front differential is incorporated into the oil pan on the RB26, and due to the size of the oilpan even with the diff cut off your still looking at an engine 6 inches taller than a 20b w/intake. Then there is the problem of the exhaust manifold striking the steering linkage, and brake master cyl (for the US models).
In comparioson, a fully built RB26 vs a fully built sideport, of half bridge (for street ability) is a quite a difference. My buddy just went through the pains of building a RWD converted RB26 (cut the diff from the pan, 2.7 bore up, T-88 kit, cams timing gears 720cc inctors, full intake swap etc etc.) and it has about the same reliability as a rotary at the moment. ($10,000 buildup) I do not sugget you go with the RB series in a RX-7 |
It is very much possible....it just depends on the level of mods and fabrications you are willing to take on. Which body style RX were planning on putting it in? Theres a guy here in FL with a 2jz motor in a FC and he was able to put a single turbo setup on it also. If guys are putting in 302s and 350s in RXs then the RB motors should also work, just depends on how crazy you want to get with it.
BTW If are looking for motors let me know a friend of mine goes back and forth from japan on a regular basis, he just got back and has all those motors you mentioned in his shop now....2 or 3 1jz, 2 2jz(vvti), 2 or 3 RB26s & 25s, has 1 FD engine left and much more. |
Use a RWD RB oil pan if you really want to stick an RB26 in an FC.

I was thinking... This would be even cooler if he wanted a r26b in his 7.
|
lol, if i had the money for an r26b, id put it in faster than a cop can eat a doughnut. Also, since the RB is hefty and the 4wd config, diff setup would be a pain, would the 1jz or 2jz be eaiser since that is also a rwd setup. This is for my FC
