Congrats... trust me you'll love it. Like being on the dyno ALL the time!!!

Just use a micrometer to measure the carbon on the tail pipes.

vosko 09-23-2002 04:14 PM

i can't wait to get it ! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

bigtime 09-23-2002 04:26 PM

what is a wideband and what does it do?

vosko 09-23-2002 04:29 PM

it tells you the A/F ratio very accurately so you can tune the car

A wideband is an instrument used to read air fuel ratios accuratly......11:1, 11:5:1, 12:1, ect... Typically on pump gas we want to stay around 11:1 to 11:5:1 in boost at wot.

vosko 09-23-2002 04:40 PM

94touring got it https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png

bigtime 09-23-2002 04:47 PM

cool

Turbo II 09-23-2002 04:52 PM

wow thats a lot of money

vosko 09-23-2002 04:53 PM

its cheap insurance

93 R1 09-23-2002 04:55 PM

Doesn't the sensor burn out pretty fast? And are pretty expensive to replace? I've heard this is the only disadvantage of running a wideband on the street.

Turbo II 09-23-2002 04:56 PM

yes thats true. its best for u to make sure u have ur car running in good condition

j9fd3s 09-23-2002 05:22 PM

its prolly worth the money

mike

SPEED_NYC 09-23-2002 05:38 PM

ok, vosko post the weekend rental rates for the wideband.

I'm first in line! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

seriously, as soon as i buy the rest of my gauges, thats my next purchase.

as for the sensor burning out, you only need the wideband hooked up while tuning. tune the car with a nice saftey margin to account for inconsistancies in pump gas quality, and replace the O2 sensor with a bolt, till you need to re-tune for diffrent boost/mods in the future. thats what everybody i know does with thier FJO's.

group buy anybody??

Jim Swantko 09-23-2002 08:17 PM

Spend a few hours on the dyno and you paid for the FJO. Not to mention it's a helluva lot cheaper than a new motor.

Tuning will be better too since it's real-world loading... not dyno loading.

I promise once you get it you'll wonder how you ever drove without one.

I may be trying a DIY wideband with Dragon's help. He's going to test it out and if it turns out good, I'm sure we'll post results.

JIM, that supra of yours looks STUNNING :bigok:

Jim Swantko 09-24-2002 06:26 AM

Thanks Jspec...

I know a few guys who had the DIY... they ended up selling them and getting an FJO. They had problems with the heat and current draw... the DIY's pull a ton of current and get hot.

Other than that I think they worked OK. I'm pretty sure they don't show actual A/F... they just show a voltage so you'll need to know what voltage = what A/F.

Keep us posted... I'm curious to see if you guys can get it working well.

Jim

vosko 09-24-2002 09:19 AM
