Which one do u guys recommend? and how does it work with a haltech? will i need both or what, someon give me the lowdown.

The Haltech doesn't support a Knock Sensor. J&S is the only aftermarket one I know of and what I hear is that it doesn't work very well on a rotary.

I just found out the Haltech Supports a VALET switch... I'm jazzed about that because when my car is in the paint shop I don't care to have MILES put on my car by those joyriding it.

(I had this happen with my Supra by the local Toyota Dealer, They put 13 miles on my car).

Yeah, most people don't bother with a knock sensor. As long as your tuning is good and use good gas you shouldn't need one.

anyone else have any input?

I don't know if Haltech has closed loop knock detection. In theory if all of your ignition correction maps like air temp, water temp, etc are setup properly you shouldn't need closed loop. Unless of course you get a bad batch of fuel. When setting up your maps, you will need some way of monitoring knock. The local tuning guy I know has some headphones connected to an amp which takes its input from the knock sensor. Apparently, its really easy to hear the difference when the engine knocks. I thought it was a pretty good idea so I'm in the process of making one for myself. I'll let you know what I think of it when I finish.

or if you are using Electromotive engine management systems, they have a close loop knock detection... Also the knock can be datalogged onto a laptop and etc...

I wonder if you couldn't build something like an led or something that you could put on the dash. You might be able to wire it to the knock sensor and have it light up when it detects knock.

I don't know what type of siginal comes out of the knock sensor and at what voltage if anyone knows let me know. I am also looking for some type of knock warning system to work with my haltech.

I have the JS knock system........But scared to tune really tight.Just me. But the Air fuel meter is awsome it has two parameters large scale and tighter in close but it is not wide band. I can see on the ECU scale how rich or lean I am at different thottle positions and type of driving.

I have had spikeed boost and stuff and still am going. I have never had it come on that I am aware of. i hope it is only an insurance that rides on top the factory anti knock capabilities.

I've have used something exacty like what DevilMotorSports mentioned. As well as having a dash mounted LED display, it also had a headphone jack to plug into. On the car it was setup on (which happened to be a piston engine) it worked VERY well. Whenever you heard it detonate through the headphones it would light up a few LEDs. Detonation sounds different coming from the knock sensor that it does when you hear it normally. But once I knew what to listen for it was very distictive.

I'm trying to get one to try on my RX7, but the company that makes them is out of stock at the moment. When I do get one I'll let you guys know if it works as well on a rotary.

when you get one tell me what its comprised of. I think it would be a pretty simple circut to just power some led's and power a little amp for the head phones.
