I know the overall opinion of the manifolds they make are not good, due to pre mature cracking. But the wastgates are cast, and look almost exactley like the original HKS ones. (unless the pictures are actually hks wastegates)

I understand the importance of a wastegate, but if someone were to get a knock off wastegate, then replace the spring with an hks original spring. Could it be relied upon?

yeah i missed the bid on an authintic on ebay, now i'm considering alternatives. If they weren't less than half the price of the originial I wouldn't even look twice at it.

i bought one, it looks like a pretty exact copy of the hks unit. if i was gonna be running high boost i dont think i would worry about it, but i want to run like 10psi, so i actually need the thing to work, so i'm a little nervous about it. enough that i think i'm just gonna stuff the to4 guts into the stock exhaust housing

yeah, im pretty worried about it. I mean if it were to fail, would it open, or stay closed? I want to run about 10 psi too, so i'm thinking if i get a 6psi spring, then try to add the 4 with the boost controller, hopefully if something happens it will just stay open.

well hanging open is no biggie, cause then your boost is just low. if it sticks closed then you get the big spike, and maybe engine or somesing.

i'm thinking i'm going to hybrid my car and put the full tfizzle on the 510@12psi, so we'll see

that's what i'm thinking, if it breaks and stays open, no biggie. closed, and your in trouble.

I really don't think i want to experiment tho. It's just a sprung valve right? What could possibly go wrong? https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683561.gif

The guide shaft could gall and bind causing the gate to get stuck in the closed position. It is subjected to a lot of heat and has to be of decent enough quality to withstand that heat and function correctly.
