Just taking a break, its about 11:30 and cold as hell outside. Tomorrow i'll be welding some stuff to finish it off.

94touring 01-04-2003 12:55 AM

Ok, finished up around 1:30 but I have to take my stuff to get welded tomorrow and get a couple odds and ends. It defenitly sits lower in the engine bay, I was a little worried for a moment if it was even going to fit or not.

Silver Ninety Three 01-04-2003 01:27 AM

what turbo?

94touring 01-04-2003 01:56 AM

t-62 in my sig, 1.00 on the exhaust and .70 on the compressor with a 4 inch inlet.

Well I didn't get much done today, but a buddy of mine is bringing his welder over tomorrow so we can knock this thing out.

qwck10th 01-05-2003 08:51 AM

That's a nice setup. Check out the thickness of the exhaust flange. Looks thicker than the RB flange! wow.

The exhaust ports look a little wider than they are tall. Not much but a little.

maybe hks knows something...

Very good quality there.

Good luck.

The quality is so awsome!! The exhaust ports match up to the block very good, much less restriction than the apexi manifold. I wish I had the digital camera with me to take a picture of the turbo's sitting next to each other on the floor, the apexi looks very tiny on the exhaust side.

j9fd3s 01-05-2003 12:46 PM

yah, way back when my friend an i were both doing turbos swaps, him rx6, me hybrid 89 fc turbo. they both have about the same sized comressor but the rx6 had about 1/2 size exhaust

mike

1Revvin7 01-05-2003 04:22 PM

ahah, what? so the stock hot side on an 89 turbo is bigger than the Rx6? sheez.

94touring 01-05-2003 04:59 PM

Well we've actually got it rigged up so there is a 4inch pipe that is welded to the back of the turbo, then it tapers down and we cut the downpipe end off and slid it inside the taper, and welded it all together. The downpipe and turbo are one piece, that rotated corrected slides right into place. We had to cut the downpipe back past the 02 sensor hole, so tomorrow we're going to re-install the bung in the new pipe. And for whatever reason I can't use the dump tube cause it doesn't line up correctly and hits into the wastegate, so I think i'm just gona leave it dumping on the ground like before instead of spending the time to weld it too.

j9fd3s 01-05-2003 06:45 PM

open wastegates make me laugh, soo cool

vosko 01-05-2003 07:11 PM

Most people I know gave up and routed theirs back into the downpipe. It's nice to see there are still some troopers out there. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png Now I just need to be brave enough to try out my new turbo.

I was considering buying that setup from the guy but didn't have the cash handy.

Congrats, let us know how you like it

1Revvin7 01-05-2003 09:04 PM

I don't have time to mess with it right now. I'll probably go with a kit for my 91, and I'll leave the big one here for the future.

but it has the six port engine in it ? don't you need a whole bunch of stuff for the 91 ? gotta put in the TII engine, microtech, fuel system ? all that stuff. i mean it won't take long but its alot of work lol

Yeah, 6 port motor, but TII drivetrain. I may put in a standalone first. Then the motor swap will be easy--1 day. The fuel system will just require me to swap my pump, but since I have the FPR I'll also do that--just an hour or so.

do u have a keyboard on ur wrist?

1Revvin7 01-06-2003 07:41 PM

So that next to ur old apexi setup? new piece looks a lot better and bigger esp. the hot side. :bigok: Whats with the welding at the bottom of the Dp?

94touring 01-06-2003 08:55 PM

And its installed finally!! But theres still more before I can drive it. The weld toward the bottom of the downpipe is where the dump tube use to be. Yeah thats the apexi beside it.

1Revvin7 01-06-2003 08:58 PM

OH! looks purty sitting there, actually kinda big :bigthumg:

It was a tight fit, I had to break out the dremel tool. I've got a little more custom exhaust work to tie the downpipe to the midpipe, doesn't fit up quite right, its gona be so damn funny driving across town with the downpipe wide open.

94touring 01-09-2003 08:59 PM

Well after a couple days of being very busy the car runs again!! Back to my buddy to match up the exhaust a little better, have a pretty nasty leak. I'm gona take it to his shop to add a bolt on the manifold I couldn't get to without a lift and i'll be rolling 100%. Nearly crapped my pants when I took it out for a test drive and had a oil leak on the return line, thought I had really messed some stuff up but thank god it was no biggie. :bigok: This weekend i'll take it out and open her up and see what kinda power i'm making.

j9fd3s 01-09-2003 11:20 PM

cool
