I need to pick a turbo for my sandrail project. I will be using a 93 13b 4 port. There will be no intake porting, but probably some minor exhaust porting. I am shooting for 400rwhp @ 15lbs. The most important thing I need is a very fast spool up. This car will be in sand most of its life, and very rarely over 100mph. Trying to kep the rpm to 7500-8000 max.

Please let me know of potential problems with this, and what turbo I should be looking for.

Thanks.

Phil

Wouldn't a filter just do the trick?

T04S would do just fine.

get the .96 or 1.0 a/r exhaust

Why no intake porting? Wouldn't porting in general help with spool?

(i.e. More air in=More air out)

Whats a to4S? I know the b's and e's.

As for sand, a good filter, combined with the pre filters made keeps sand out.

Porting - main reason for no porting is I want to keep the rpm down. Since porting the rotary is like putting a bigger cam in a piston engine, it would increase duration and most likely overlap. Both of which I dont want to increase for the effect on rpm.

Please correct me if I am wrong on this. I know my piston engines inside and out, but the details of rotaries I'm not sure I have yet.

Thanks.

400 wheels at 15 psi? take a look at the 60-1 off of rotary extreme. Should be sufficient for your goals with nice spool.

Because if you arent porting the motor you are going to need the bigger t04s to make 400rwhp at 15lbs of boost.

I made ~400 with stock ports with a XS t04s kit.

why the recommendations for such large a/r? I would think a .68-.85 a/r would be better for quick spool up.

Thanks again.

You could use a smaller A/R if you wanted because you arent looking for something to breathe at higher RPM. If you are spending any time over 6000rpm I would go with a larger A/R.

lag is overrated. These things rev so quick that you wolnt notice, as long as you are in the correct gear.
