I noticed that my car didn't seem to be boosting much lately in the lower rpm's and I couldn't hear my turbo like I can in my buddy's TII. We took off the intake and checked the turbo for play in the compressor wheel. there was play from side to side, but not back and forth. Is it blown?

side to side as long as the wheel doesn't touch the housing is good, no or little in and out is good, and spins freely is good. I'd say by your description, if it spins freely then it is good. Might check to see if your actuator is sticking and not closing all the way.

Its not suppose to move in and out. As long as the blades don't touch the sides like Igy said, should be fine. You can check for marks along the side if the blades touch, or even chips in the blades themselves.

When we checked it for play, i wiggled it back and forth and it did touch the sides of the housing. Time to upgrade.... ?

yes you need to fix it. that is a huge safety issue for the car. no telling how much damage you could cause. I have a pair of pretty good shape 13b-re turbos and manifold the manifold should fit the fc no problem just convert the turbos to non-seq. well never mind to much work you'd need custom pipes and a fmic..
