Well we traced down an oil leak today thinking it was the front e-shaft seal...turns out it was my oil metering line (only one). The covering around the line was intact but the actual metering line was burnt to a crisp. I had plumes of smoke coming out of the top of my vented hood and naturally out the back as oil would splash on my turbo/manifold. Fun, fun. I'm not sure if the lines weren't secured properly or what. I'm going to have some teflon-lined braided lines made and then sheath them with firejacket. Just wondering if this has happened to anyone else? https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/wacko.png

ive seen it, but it was improper instalation of something (it was a gsl-se so no turbo)
i also have seen some lines uncrimp themselves |
This happened to my engine 2 engine's ago...This is the reason I went premix.

basically your adding oil to your gas for one reason or another, some people do it on s5's with haltechs because the haltech doesnt control eletric OMP...

We offer the braided stainless steel OMP lines for the FD.

apex seals are not lubricated and fail really fast
you most likley have the OMP still enabled (which lubracates the seals for you) So no worries there. Premix is for people without the OMP. |
They were brand new lines from Mazda actually...guess I'll be ordering a set from Gotham :-) Luckily I also use premix for safety reasons. two stroke synthetic Pennzoil Marine. No smoke. Comes in a yellow container and you can buy it at Walmart fairly cheaply.

Steve, just ordered your stainless OMP lines and a turbine heat shield (for a T78, hope it fits). I also asked for you guys to send replacement alternator/water pump belts for the GReddy pulley kit (FD) if you have them. I'm heading out for London, England in about 5 minutes and I'll be back on Friday. I really need the OMP lines by Friday if possible. Thanks for the head's up as I was going to try and have them made locally (which is always a PITA where I live).
|
Got it, I'll have the OMP lines, heat blanket and two belts ship to you tomorrow and will provide you with the tracking # via email. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png
|
oh yea, the heat blanket will fit the T78 turbo fine. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png
|
premix,i like to use redline smokeless.it cost alttle more but never smokes when im either driving or racing.
|
Just ordered the OMP lines as well. Along with the clutch line. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

the only bad part of those SS lines are that you can not be certain that there is oil reaching the oil injectors. THat is the reason the OEM lines are transparent

But it's not like you can just look under there and tell.. By looking at mine (Which haven't been used in a while) you'd think there's oil running through them right now! LOL You have a good point though.. But I think it would be hard to tell (after a few uses) if there was a clog or not. Plus, I'm steel braided crazy... Just plain love the ****! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png Oh, and gotham is great to deal with. I love the way they keep me informed of my order! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png |

Yes, we offer OMP lines for 2nd gen but prices vary depending on the model of the car. They're also special order items so it takes a little longer to get.

I love my SS OMP lines. My factory ones were crap. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

Although theyre undoubtedbly beneficial, you can still melt the internal teflon in braided lines. One should still take the recaution of shielding the stainless lines from heat as well.
|
does that heat shield fit the t4 turbines as well? i've got a 60-1......

Yes, the heatshield fits in any T04 Base turbine housing and it is also big enough to fit in the Greddy T78 and 88 turbo.

I have a polished stainless heat shield that doesn't fit my T78 turbine housing but would fit a T4 perfectly (as it was made specifically for that). I'm back in town BTW. Arrived late this evening. Package from Gotham was there with my new lines, heat shield and belts! Nice work guys. Products look great.

Yes actually I do since I do not have a use for it :-) I think Harrison gets first dibs on all my "old" parts though. I also just bought two new HKS filters with 100mm openings to be used on GReddy T78 and such kits. One is the regular powerflow with the green filter (but you can buy blue, orange, gray, red, etc...extra filters for like $12) and one of the new Metalflows. So I'm selling the Powerflow which is in new condition. I did modify it for a vacuum nipple for the OMP nozzles however. So I have that for sale as well if anyone is interested. I did this instead of one of the K&N's because I have a vented hood (Knight Sports carbon). Problem is, the vent is right over the tip of the filter so if it rains, it hits the filter. That in turn causes the oil to be washed away leaving you with a worthless filter. I put a small "shield" over the top but it restricted flow. The HKS units won't have this problem and they're nice and large for no restriction. Wide but not deep so they clear the FMIC with repositioned radiator setups too which was my initial problem.
The stainless heat shield is very thick guage material and fully polished. High quality, but it just didn't fit the larger T78 exhaust housing. |
OMP lines were put on last night replacing the bandaged, tortured stock units. The heat shield is on as well and it works. You can literally touch the top of the shield when the car is fully warmed and it's only warm to the touch.
Now that my OMP oil leak is solved, I thought I was set to go. The bad news is that it looks like my rear oil seal is blown as it's dripping a bit of oil around the turbine clamp and onto my headers. Just dumped a bunch of money on things like rear diffusers, air filters, pumps, OMP lines, injectors, rails, and a bunch more stuff....so I may acquire a plain bearing GT40 to replace the current turbo. Anyone have a good price on this unit? |
cool if you do let me know how you like it.... i'm still thinking of maybe getting a different manifold, and i also kinda wanna try that new turbo......
|
leaky, broken OMP line to Rear rotor cost me my last motor, Wore down the apex seals and the rear rotor compression in less than 8k miles.

I always run a bit of premix just in case so that may have saved me...haven't lost any vacuum at idle and she's running strong despite the weak turbo.
I'm interested in the 88mm wheel as that's what I have grafted onto the front of my T78 now :-) Still debating between BB and non-BB. I'm using a GReddy manifold, an older "SPR" version that has larger runners and is not fully divided. I'm worried that the Garrett w/the 88mm wheel and the .94 rear housing might not spool well without the BB CHRA. I have no idea how the Garrett rear housing compares size wise to the T78's housing. |
