.84A/R... with a 4" DP.... I was running on some theory that was mentioned to me once which drove my decision to use the relatively large compressor (for a street car) .84 turbine, two tial 38mm gates and the 4"DP. I have been questioned repeatedly about my decision to go with this "odd" combination of parts. I would say based on my results, power, spool etc, that the theory played out pretty well. I'll find out the limits once I crank up the boost a bit more.

Also, I should add that I mean no disrespect to owners of modified FD's when I said there are many out there. I love the cars and will probably own one someday. It can be irritating at times when people discount the car simply b/c it's an FC chassis or even FB for that matter. Many people immediately assume that the FC and FB owners simply can't afford the FD's when in many cases that isn't true at all.

Sorry, I tend to be very long winded https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png ok. thanks for taking the time. I've also herd several claims on hp gains from the swap.. I believe dave from fc3s.org has done it before can't remember. but the hp gains are more likley around 10-15 hp

Seriously, if you see some proof of this in the form a dyno graph I would love to see it. Also, if someone can first hand say that they have seen increases on a dyno, I'd love to hear that as well. Just for me at this point, it seems to be an urban legend... might as well be a "Type R" sticker. HAHA

Ok that was harsh, but I'm certainly not opposed to the swap if it is actually a power benefit https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

I have been looking for proof, point me in the right direction please!!

True Like I said i'm not quite sure if he did it or not. I guess it don't really matter that much considering your car looks great and has some outragous #s to back it up. What do you think of the gram lights? and what bushing kit is that you have pictured with you sway bars?

carx7 11-25-2003 04:08 PM

The wheels are nice... I prefer a polished lip so I'd get the pros if I did it again... but these are nice. The buhsings on the sways bars came with them: suspension techniques. The rest of the bushings are energy suspension.

Please let me know if you hear more on the manifold thing. 10 HP from a manifold 15 HP from water injection and I'll be REALLY close to 500HP for under 20psi boost.... potentially anyway https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

My butt dyno told me that I gained (maybe about 10 HP) on the top end with the FD upper intake manifold. It didn't seem to change the low end.

https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png man thats a mighty sensitive butt ACE https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png it would be intresting to see an actual dyno of this mod.

I'm usually pretty good, but I never had a chance to dyno the car. So we'll never know.

.84 a/r hotside?

That would explain the 17-19 psi by 3900 rpm statement. I wonder how much more you could make on the top end with a .96 or 1.0 a/r? Isn't this a PT67 or something like that? Do they offer a bigger exhaust a/r?

carx7 11-25-2003 07:45 PM

Yep... I was paying attention on the drive home and did several "pulls"

I'm only running 16psi right now so I can't speak exactly to the 19psi but:

In 5th gear I started at 2500 RPM and floored it. I saw .6bar by 2900 the W/G started to crack at 3200 and by 3500 I was at 16psi, full W/G... so I definately believe 19psi at 3900.

<butchered!>

<added

Further I have not ported my .84 to match the manifold runners... ie my exhaust gasses hit a WALL when they enter the turbo. Matching the flow ports exactly is impossible b/c that would break out of the outside of the turbine housing. So we were thinking that maybe going to a 1.0 although being bigger and generally slowing spool, it could be port matched to the manifold for smoother gas flow which would increase flow and help spool.... so in an idea world, I could get less restriction on the top end and by improving the flow path I could retain the current spool characteristics... who knows how that would really end up though....

Does someone want to buy me another turbine housing to find out with?? https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/bigok.gif

We did a run at 20psi and saw 466HP at 6k RPM (my 467.5 at 19psi was seen just over 7k) so it was headed to make more peak power, but Steve detected some ignition breakup and let off before peak was achieved.

There is certainly more power left in this setup but first I need a bigger fuel pump (the RP one was maxing out) and Steve feel a bit stronger ignition (the Jacobs box on factory coils wasn't popular) unfortunately I'm out of money for a while, so these "experiments" will have to wait :(

Great theory https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR Sounds like it would work.
