The opinion has been stated that the ideal timing advance for a ported motor and a single turbo is 12 degrees. Here is the quote:

a ported motor wants a tad less timing. you do hear the 15degree@15 psi everywhere for every setup.

I've had 18 degrees advance at 15 psi before, but then retarded it to 15 for more of a safety margin.

Pump gas, you want around 12. Race gas is total different bag of tricks. I've seen more than 20degrees with almost no split....

Ahh, blah blah blah....I ran 15 degrees on pump gas at 18psi for 2 years on the same motor still going strong. At 17 degrees it would start to break up a little in the higher rpms.

One more note, if I ran as low as 13 degrees advance I'd start shooting fireballs in between shifts.

Bridge port, 19psi, 19 degrees, no split. This motor ran for over a year and then was taken apart for refresh. This was done with SDS and an Electomotive hpv-1.
I personally like around 16 degrees at 15psi tapering up to 18 degrees after peak torque. This on a power fc with 4 degrees of split. |

I have ran up to 20 PSI on 92 without water injection and 16 degrees at peak torque. I ran all Summer at 18 PSI. My AFR`s are very rich and probably helps.

I run on 93 pump.
If anything you want to lower the timing in peak torque, this is where it is most dangerous, then gradually bring it back up to keep the power curves steady. |
