Single Turbo VS Twin Turbo VS Supercharger

In your opinion:

Which do you think is better for RX7?

Which is better turbo or supercharger for RX7?

What are the pluses and minuses of turo and supersharger?

rfreeman27 07-16-2003 07:20 PM

well for one, turbochargers are a lot more common for all generations. what model/engine/year?

epion2985 07-16-2003 07:38 PM

rx7 3rd gen 93-98, I am thinking generaly

kahren 07-16-2003 11:33 PM

single

FikseRxSeven 07-16-2003 11:42 PM

single is the way to go....... but there are some modified twins out there that will produce similar power gains

Orochinoyamato 07-17-2003 08:40 AM

Well, bearing that in mind, what are the comparisons, cost and performance-wise, of converting from stock to BNR stage 2 or 3, converting to a T-[51-78], or converting to a TO4[E-R]

apexkw 07-17-2003 08:48 AM

to go from completely stock to single turbo will cost you about 9 grand. i did all the work myself and it still cost this much. you need a crap load of parts and time.. also my figure doesnt include porting a motor. i run a stock ported motor with my single setup.

Orochinoyamato 07-17-2003 09:14 AM

Right, I'm guessing the BNR conversion would be much cheaper and easier since you don't need to move anything or make any new mounting brackets or supports?

That also brings up another question, which probably deserves its own thread (or two): which mods are dependent on each other? For instance, is there any point in getting 1600 cc injectors if you don't have enlarged ports of some kind? Will there be any improvement from an upgraded fuel pump without both of those? And anything else along those lines, that's just an example of the type of question.

rfreeman27 07-17-2003 10:56 AM

you are going to need an entire fuel system upgrade...pump, regulators, injectors + rails,

then you have ecu and tuning (which inst cheep) and the list goes on...

epion2985 07-17-2003 02:31 PM

whats "BNR conversion"?

rx7machine 07-17-2003 02:36 PM

If you don't want alot of power but with some quickness, stick with the twins.. if you want more power and increase the reliability.. go with single.. it all depends on your uses.

rx7machine 07-17-2003 02:43 PM

BNR conversion is rebuilt twins.. with an upgarde I believe.

epion2985 07-18-2003 03:52 PM

singe spools up faster though doesnt it, so why would twins be quicker?

what would you recomend, power ar quickness, takeing in consideration that I wont be drag racing more like streets and corners so power would only be good on take off....

nope, single turbos spool to full boost slower than twin turbos would

and sequential twin turbos would hit full boost even faster

epion2985 07-18-2003 05:02 PM

but single gives more power right?

yes....... typically sigle turbo setups give more power

epion2985 07-18-2003 05:30 PM

how much more? I am not talking precise science, just a vague comparison.

FikseRxSeven 07-18-2003 05:34 PM

at 15psi you'll probably get 350+ with twins..... and you can get as much as 460 like vosko with a single turbo

epion2985 07-18-2003 05:54 PM

how is the rx7 with the torque issues. I mean with all that power onm the drive train, but howq much of it actualy is on the wheels? the car is so light and other things...

FikseRxSeven 07-18-2003 06:20 PM

im talkin about wheel horse power

epion2985 07-18-2003 06:29 PM

ok cool. But I am talking general, how does rx7 do with torque, how much power does it actually get to the wheels vs hoe much is at the drive train. I cant imagine such a light car would have good torque, there must be mods to help that right...

epion2985 07-21-2003 11:10 AM

Re: -[single Turbo Vs Twin Turbo Vs Supercharger]-

Turbos work better w/ rotaries bc they rev so high adding much more power, the motor could spin faster than the blower will
