What is normal compression for a s4 n/a? Somebody I work with just picked up an s4, and the car was having problems. We both figured it out that fuel lines were crossed. He check compression, and the front housing is a good 90psi, but the rear at 60psi. I am guessing that is pretty bad, or not? I completely forgot the numbers.



Anyhow, car started right up, he needs to drain the gas tank, do some body work on the rear, replace the taillights, and put the interior back together also. He is going to end up turbo swapping it, but he is not sure yet on what to swap. I told him to do a 13b-RE swap. It's a GXL, and he got it for 500 bucks.

 

if the front rotor is 90psi and the rear is 60psi, then you have a problem. you're looking more to compare the readings (they should all be the same) than for the actual number, as the guages vary.

 

also around 80psi is considered "time to save for the rebuild"



oh and i have a $500 car too, no idea what it is, probably a base or something.

oh, ok. i figured it was going to be off, but not that badly. he had a really nice compression tester, nothing from what I have seen. some Mac tools tester. i told him it would run like **** with the compression being that bad. i told him to pull the engine so he could at least rebuild it, or sell it for a really cheap price.

 

did he remove the valve from the compression tester when he did the readings?

 

i am not 100% sure. he is a tech in the shop, so I am sure that he did. i will ask him, and if he did not, i will tell him to retest it, his readings may come out better.
