Well for my first post I invisioned something a bit more understated than a cry for help... sorry. I have been lurking for a while and I just joined a few days ago. I bought a 2009 RX-8 GT with 6000 miles on it last week. It was the sales manager's demo car for all 6K of those. I took it home and immediately started noticing a knocking underneath the car when turning up a small hill like into a parking lot (I am located in Dallas by the way).



I took it back to the dealer today and after looking at it for 6 hours they told me that ths suspensionhttp://images.intellitxt.com/ast/adTypes/2_bing.gif knocking was from the joints in the front lacking lubrication, like they had been sitting there for to long without being driven...



I think that they are full of sh*t but I can''t prove it because I don't know enough about the car.



Can you guys please give me a hand?

I love this car, and I want to keep it but I am afraid that the dealer might be pulling the wool over my eyes with a car that hasbeen wrecked and selling it to me as a new car.... I hope this isn't the case but I am just not certain enough to feel confident about it.



If it turns out that the car is broken and they sold it to me under false pretenses. I also have a grinding sound going into 6th gear from any gear and at any rpm other than idle speeds. They say that this is probably a clutch adjustment.... I don't believe that either....



I think this thing was hotrodded like a champ for 6k, but they don't want to tell me that.



What do y'all think.



Sorry for being a newb... I know that sucks but I do appreciate the help.

gear grinding sounds like synchros, suspension knocking could be a lot of things, broken springs, something rubbing.....etc. can't really say off hand without looking at it in person :/

It's under warranty, I'd make them fix it. I honestly can't tell you if it's been beat on or not, but you may get somewhere if you tell them all the crap you've noticed and that you would rather buy a new car. I've bought demo's before in the past and had good luck, so I dunno.

Thanks for the replys, I appreciate it. The service advisorsaid that the knocking was due to a cross-member not being properly lubricated... I find that weird a little bit but I have asked them to let me come into the shop and take a look under the car so I can see what they are talking about when I pick it up and they said that shouldn't be a problem.



As for the tranny thing, they haven't said anything yet... Synchros sound about right and I suppose that could be just a manufacturing defect. Did they change the transmission at all when they freshened up the car for 2009? I just want to make sure that the first 6000 miles weren't overly brutal to that car, so all of these problems right off the bat make mea bit nervous.

easiest way to destroy the synchros are powershifting (not using the clutch in a shift) or by downshifting way to early/hitting the wrong gear. i'm not sure if the trans is any different in any of the 8's but i know the FD's are bad about their synchros eating themselves after 100k+ miles. it didn't help that those were turbo'd though and people drove the piss out of them. i think the 8's have hydraulic clutch linkage (not for sure, can someone confirm or deny?) and with hydraulic you could possibly have a leak in the fluid lines that would cause the clutch not to disengage completely and possibly cause you to grind a few gears when it's not pressured up yet. but again, all of this should be under warranty and sounds really odd that it would be doing these things this early in it's life https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683561.gif

I am concerned by how young the car is as well. The new Synchro will be in tomorrow afternoon so they will have the car another day https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/angry.gif but as long as it is all fixed I will feel better about it. I am going to take your advice though and when I speak to the service advisor with my car I will ask her to be sure to check the clutch lines for leaks etc. Any idea on how to check to see if the clutch is worn excessively? I want to check everything that I can before it leaves the shop.



Even if the guy that put the first 6K was powershifting everywhere he went I didn't think that would rough up the tranny already... I wonder if it is possible that this is an issue that the car came with from the factory?

well when they rebuild the trans (i've never heard of them tearing down a trans to change one part) they'll have to pull the trans off so you'll be able to see the splines on the pressure plate to make sure they're good but you can't see the clutch pads without removing it i believe.

oh! i almost forgot that since you're in dallas, there's a rotary only shop in garland, on the east side of dallas. there are some really cool guys there and might be able to give you advice on the issues if they're not too busy. more often than not though, they're booked

By the way the shop has just called, she won'tbe ready until tomorrow afternoon around 5 pm... It shouldn't be a two day project to change a synchro and lube a suspension (that doesn't need lubing....https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683358.gif ) I wonder what is going on?

well, if done right a full transmission rebuild is an entire day's worth of work minimum so i dunno?

I wonder if they are keeping something from me... I will have to be sure to have them put it up on the rack tomorrow to show me the suspension and explain the tranny problems to me fully. Maybe if they are I can ask enough questions to figure it out....



Or maybe I have just been believing to many conspiracy theorys and the shop is honest but slow.... um yeah it is. you have to remove the transmission, take it apart, replace the one part, put it back together, put it back in the car. just the removal/replacement is about 4-5 hours by itself....



the suspension thing, um i dunno, ive seen all kinds of weird things. on the old millenias the wheel cleaner they use at carwashes used to get into the upper ball joints and degrease em, so after a while it would squeak, it only happened to people who had the car washed, like the sales managers...



the rx8 did get a new trans for 2009, and it wasn't broken from the factory, the sales guy did it, but that's why the car was cheap!



and that's what the warranty is for

Warranty is a great thing in this case, and I suppose that the suspension thing probably isn't too bad of a thing. As for the tranny I had no idea that it would take so long to just get the thing out of the car but I supose that I should have thought more about it. I had to take the tranny out of my 2000 Camaro SS, back when I had it, and removing that thing required dropping the front suspension cradle completely out which took forever....



Oh yeah, the Gat Dang Dealer is going to have it until Monday Afternoon!!!!!! The service manager said that because the 09 has a new tranny and they had never worked on one before, so they needed to get a special tool for it that they didn't have yet and they only have 2 techs that have go to class for that car so they are being very precise in the transmission.



I like them taking time on the tranny but I want my damn car back!!!
