This post is strictly for informational purposes. I'm not trying to sell something, just trying to figure out whether there's enough interest in a product that I'm working on...enough interest to continue development.

I'm part of a company that's working on a hand-held flash tuner for the RX-8's that actually can be completed and available relatively soon (Feb. 06) depending on whether there is market interest. Is this a product that you feel is needed or wanted among RX8 owners? Is there interest out there for this type of product?

Its features should net additional power gains, raised limiters, allowing other modifications to function correctly (supercharger, nos, larger injectors, etc..).

I couldn't find a "edit" button, so I'll add more info here. I just wanted to add that this flash tuner would be designed to work with the Factory ECM. There would be no need for a stand alone unit.

i think that would be a good thing! replacing the stock ecu is a pain, cause its networked to the rest of the car

As posted in the RX-8 forum, we would all love this, but I suspect you are in over your head. The Diablo stuff your company sells is not nearly sophisticated enough to deal with the PCM encryption and tamper-resist.

If you do make it and it works, I would throw serious money at you for sure.

Diablo has absolutely nothing to do with this (and you're right about that). You're referring to one of the companies that I'm involved with. That company only acts as a distribution warehouse.

One thing I can tell you right now is that we have already been successful flashing the RX8 computer. It's really not a matter of whether we can do it. It's a matter of whether there's enough interest to justify spending the needed time to get seriously deeper into the all the different areas of tuning. We will do this project no matter what. It's just whether we'll complete it within the next month or so or finish it later on in the year. What I mean by this is that we have many projects that we are currently finishing and working onn and the RX8 is just one we stumbled across and found that it's pretty simple and can be completed realatively quickly.

If you were designing our software, what areas of adjustments would you like to have control of?

Well, it would need to be able to write to all of the fuel and spark maps (open and closed loop) as well as the idle and throttle control. Adjustment of the WBO2S look-ups would be pretty important too.

Ignition timing split.

Temp, acceleration and speed compensation maps.

SDAIS, VFAD and MOP control.

Il RX8 lI 01-01-2006 04:27 PM

Interested.

Great info (just what I'm looking for) but could you please define...

SDAIS

VFAD

MOP

thank you.

SDAIS - Sequential Dynamic Air Intake System (which includes the VFAD as well as the VDI _ Variable Dynamic Intake)

VFAD - Variable Fresh Air Duct

Both of these are intake resonance tuning devices.

MOP - Metering Oil Pump

Thank you. It's much appreciated.

i wonder why this guy has it so easy when others are having so much difficulty like Greggy, Megasquirt, Canzoomer, to name a few....only one i have heard of that is some what decent is the interceptor-x and its $1600 for the unit.....

Maybe the other people are still feeling out the market before they do their R&D in order to see if their product would sell. Not everyone is buying the 8 with plans to increase its performance. It would be wise to figure out 1. how many are actually on the road and 2. what percentage of those people would be interested in performance products. You wouldn't want to devote a big R&D team to a product that would increase the performance of vehicle A if there's only 1,000 on the road with only 2% of those people wanting to fix it up, especially when vehicle B has 100,000 on the road, and 75% of the people would be interested in increased performance. At least that's a reason I could come up with.

When I said it was going to be pretty simple, that doesn't necessarily mean that it's a simple task. It's still hard work but we've completed projects that were very difficult and that has taken over year to figure out. Compared to other projects we have done, I was relatively speaking.

The RX8 is a project that we will do. The only question I have (for myself) is when it will be completed. There are so many variables that determine a completion date.

I was speaking for the big companies he mentioned. Rotary specialists are what keep the market fresh for us since not all of the big guys do a lot of heavy research. Keep doing what you're doing, I'm interested in some safe, conservative modding for my 8.
