stuff you should know if you have one.
1. there have been several minor recalls, drop it by a dealer or call mazda to find out if they have been done.
2. the latest pcm flash is "P" (as of this writing), either ask for it by name, or complain about "rough running when cold"
3. the number one problem is flooding, they have updated software AND new spark plugs. driving the car hard seems to help the flooding.
4. there are updated engine mounts to fix a "rough idle" it feels like the engine is sitting on the frame, the new mounts fix this.
other than that, these have been trouble free, enjoy!

pauls car doesnt flood, its been to the track, petra's car floods weekly, she's older

ok so im not sure if anyone has seen this or posted about it yet but here is goes.
there is a high speed starter for the rx8 now, i testes a 8 with the old starter at 178 rpm starting and with the new starter i was gettin 336 rpm starting.
unforunatly this starter right now is only avalible from mazda tech line but take it to you dealer and see if you can get one of these. just wish that that starter would bolt to my fc bell housing.
new spark plugs wich look alot like the old rx7 plugs are out and avalible from the dealer.
and new better battery is out. its a 640cca bat.
anyways just thought some may like to know.

That's awesome info there, FC3sboy.
If my car wasn't working so well I'd be on my dealer for them. I don't like to demand stuff, and my car is perfect. So I'm all set.
I will get the newer stuff if any of mine craps out in the future.

P0336 (ECCENTRIC SHAFT SENSOR) DURING ENGINE START
Applicable Models
Model Starting S/N Ending S/N
2004 RX8 00000000 ZZZZZZZZ
2005 RX8 00000000 ZZZZZZZZ
Some vehicles may experience a DTC P0336 at time of engine start. (Eccentric shaft position sensor range / performance) The cause may be due to a loose / poor battery ground located on the front core support. Repair vehicle using repair procedure if P0336 FFD indicates DTC set during engine starting conditions.
1. Remove engine cover.
2. Remove battery box cover.
3. Locate battery ground wire attachment point to core support.
Ground is located between battery box and air cleaner box.
(Black with red tracer, held to body with 10MM bolt)
Clean / tighten ground contact to body.
4. Verify repair.
methinks if you added to the ground here it might be a good thing.

WHINE OR SQUEAL NOISE FROM ENGINE AT IDLE

Some customers may complain of a high-pitched whine or squeal noise fromthe engine at an idle. The noise can be eliminated by raising the engineRPM slightly above idle. This is most likely caused by the primary port jet air nozzles and / or the metering oil pump air ports. The jet air nozzles are located in the primary port of each rotor. The jet air flow is acheived by using air flow from an area prior to the throttle plate. The metering oil injection nozzles also use this airflow prior to the throttle plate to assist oil flow into the engine. This creates a metered vacuum leak into the engine and may cause a high pitched whine at idle. This noise is considered to be a normal characteristic of the RENESIS rotary engine. Use the procedure outlined in the repair instructions to confirm noise is from the jet air or metering oil pump nozzles.
1.Confirm noise.
2.Remove engine cover.
3.Locate both air supply hoses for jet air nozzles and metering oil pump nozzles. Hoses are attached to the air duct located between the MAF and throttle body. Disregard hose that attaches to the oil filler tube
4.Confirm noise is caused by jet air or metering oil pump nozzles by temporarily pinching off air supply hoses using pliers.
5.No repairs should be attempted if noise is reduced or eliminated.
