I recently took my car into mazda and got it back today. I had to have to new catalytic converter put on, along with a new battery, oil change, oil filter, and air filter. I was having a LOT of trouble out of how the engine was running. When the service manager pulled my car around he told me that I should run the fire out of my engine and try to tear the engine up so that I could have it recalled and get a new one because my compression on my engine now isn't very good at all. But my clutch is starting to go out so he told me to be careful with it. A new clutch with labor was priced at close to $1200. I currently have around 54,000 miles on the car and I would like to have the engine swapped for a good one before the 8 year 100,000 mile warranty is over. Could anyone give me some suggestions on how to tear my engine up in a way that warranty will cover it? I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you to those who help!

Best ways to kill a rotary are no oil or overheating. Other than that its pretty tough. You could try running at max rpm for prolonged periods.

Lean it out, toss an apex seal and then it's done. Especially an MSP as there's no peripheral exhaust port for the seal to leave from so it'll just destroy the housing and irons. Mazda dealerships won't do rebuilds so they'll put a crate engine in. But I'd check first about the conditions of the warranty.

i am a mazda tech, mazda master , mazdaspeed cert , rx-7 rx-8 specilest and what your service guy is a dumb **** for even remotley saying anything along the lines of self distruction. the dealer i work for is self authorizing and even we have to get mazda north american operations involved with any major component replacement. mazda went to a 100,000 mile warrenty on the rx8 already for the powertrain. we all, as mazda dealers and service centers got handed a memo today from MNAO stating all dealers must follow strict guide lines on rotory engine replacments now. depending on your state mazda can and will now ( and they are not the only company doing this) can denigh all warrenty claims on powertrain if proper service records are presented. i being in the state of wisconsin am in a state where the law states we do not need the records however mazda still requests them. infact that is one of the first questions we as techs are asked when requesting a new engine. what you need to do is find a new dealer and see what they can do for you, then call mazdas hotline and ask them what they can do for you. if your nice they will help. you should have the number for mazda customer service in you owners manual. if not your dealer is required to give it to you.

that being said, if you run it out of oil or do something to damage your engine mazda will denigh the claim and it will be on you 100%. i have seen it done more than once and with the economy the way it is now all auto companies are really cracking down. hell mazda just build a warrenty return inspection building to go threw all warrenty parts and if they find something they do not like or the proper paper work is not filled out the dealer gets charged back.

if your compression is low why didnt they already order the new motor. did your dealer do the decarb, and was the cat inspected, was the motor mounts inspected. hell if you give me the vin i can run it and tell you every warrenty claim on the car. i have had 2 engines that had good compression but little vacum and mazda wanted me to put new motors in the cars. also have had a few with just at the minimum tolerance for compression and motors where sent . to me sounds like a lazy dealer. man i could have just used one reply but this subject pisses me off and flustered .

I don't understand this. If you maintain your car properly, and the engine still dies, they can deny the warranty claim? So if I neglect my regular service, they grant it?

Well I really think the mazda dealership that I go to doesn't know what they are fully talking about. I have been trying everything I can possibly try to do to get my clutch to slip and rev the engine but it won't do it, so I think my clutch is just fine and they don't know when a clutch is going bad or not. About the compression topic on my car. The dealer said it was just when it's starting up, but once it's running the compression ratio is just fine. I am really skiddish about the whole idea of running the fire out of my engine like the service manager told me, just to get a new engine. My engine is running GREAT now that I had the new cat put on and the regular maintance stuff. I'm just afraid that if I were to run my engine hard, and the thing live long enough to surpass the 8 year, 100,000 mile warranty, then it breaks, I would be S.O.L. I appreciate everyones help so far!
