All,

I'm looking for advice on aftermarket exhaust headers. I'm putting a renesis in my kit airplane and the stock exhaust manifold is to heavy/bulky to keep. It goes w/o saying that emissions and noise are not constraints. I'm simply looking for the lightest, highest hp, most durable replacement for the stock manifold.

I've checked the more popular on-line vendors, most of them have an aftermarket header but they don't specify a renesis variant. Since the exhaust ports have moved from the original 13B, I assume I can't use anything made for the RX-7.

Thanks in advance-

YardArt.

racing beat will most likely be better than any others...they make a renesis header

Probably have to have something custom made, either inconel or atleast a thinner wall 321SS. We can do 321SS unit if you like, but its not going to be as cheap as something from china...

from racing beat's rx-8 page: http://www.racingbeat.com/FRmazda4.htm

==========

Exhaust Headers - We are waiting for delivery of the exhaust manifold and outlet flange from our supplier. The design of the OEM engine-to-manifold flange incorporated a series of tubes that are intended to supply air to the exhaust ports as part of the emissions control system. We are attempting to incorporate these tubes into our flange design to allow correct operation of the emissions system. Although we could certainly eliminate these tubes and offer a non-emissions compliant, race-only header, we are attempting to retain the full functionality of the emissions system with our design.

This design involves some complexity with regards to the casting process and we are currently exploring options that will reduce the tooling and manufacturing costs associated with this design.

Update 9/07 - We've secured a supplier for this flange and we expect these headers to be available in late 2007.

This is what I've been running into- it seems obvious someone's made one by now... but... where is it? I also have no interest in the ECS connections mentioned in the above text- to me that's just added weight.

Thanks for the insight tho- keep the suggestions coming!

rx8's have 3 exhaust ports. there is no special runner for emissions.

are you serious?

either way. renesis exhaust is located on teh irond plates not on the rotor housings like previous rotaries.

Pete Gebhart (an ole' NASCAR fabricator and started his own shop a while back) makes a great long tube header out of stainless steel. Works great. Great h.p. Great guy. www.petesspeedandfab.com
