I haven't read the whole thing, but it explains why the side exhaust ports help with emissions and fuel economy.

Yeah, I'm not sure why they didn't do both intake and exhaust ports on the side from the start. They obviously figured out that a side intake port increases engine power at low revs as well as fuel economy, why not make the exhaust a side port for the same reasons? If they would have done that back in the 80's, maybe they would have never stopped rotary production.



Not that I'm complaining too much, obviously peripheral port exhaust makes a good location for a turbo or two... https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

I don't know if the side exhust ports will allow for the strong exhaust pulses we're used to.
