ok i dont think thats the right word but i had something. ive been keeping my eye out for an is300 for my gf that her and i are gonna buy together. my choices were originally between the is300 the c class sedans and the 3 series. i decided on the is bc the reviews are so much better and i know toyota to be reliable, and thats a major deciding factor. anyway today it came to me why not an rx8? our budget will be $15k to $22k or so and a used 8 with about 10 or 15k miles is right in that range. it needs to have a backseat bc we want to be able to use the car to haul a kid or two when the time comes, which the 8 does and its a pretty good sized backseat. mazda also has a great certified pre owned program which gives an extra 4 years/50k miles once the original 4 years 50k miles runs out. they also give free roadside assistance, which is good bc my gf will be the one driving the car. anyone see any problems with what ive said? the only downside i see is the mazda service departments.

And suddenly, the light has hit my brain. Keep us posted & gut luck. Damnit I want one!

well it wont be for a while, she will be listed as the main driver, bc she will be and for ins. purposes, and were gonna wait til shes 21 bc shell get a big break in ins. then. for the is300 full coverage before shes 21 it would be 247 a month, but after 21 it will be 104 a month, i think we can wait! the reason im asking for advice now is because i like to plan way in advance.

so whats the reliability like on an 8? ive heard of a few isolated problems

I saw a charcole one today pulling out of my friends neighborhood. From the right angles they just look so slick and graceful

No reliability issues. Like you said, isolated problems. I drive the crap out of mine and have never had a problem... it has been my daily driver since Sep. 03. Just don't get an auto.

I love my 8 and would highly recommend it to someone looking for a family car that also has a little more "umph" than the others. The transmission shot out on mine but they fixed it under warranty, saved me $4500 + labor. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png But if she's into the whole thing, go for it. It's an NA rotary, take care of it and it'll be fine.
