hi im new to this forum just purchased an 05 rx 8 and was wondering what kind of precautions ive got to take with the engine. Do i have to warm it up before driving it? do i need to rev up the engine when about to park and turn off. just wanted to see how i need to take of the engine.if u know.please let me know thanks.

nothing really special, try to keep it under 4000rpms before its warmed up, and if you do want to start it cold and move it a short distance, rev it up beofre you shut it off, or let it run for a while.



other than that, just maintain it like they say to in the owners manual.

A lot of people rev the engine up to 3k then cut the ignition. This lets the rotors spin a few extra times to push out any fuel. This is basically a precaution against flooding. Flooding is most common when you start the engine and shut it down without allowing it to reach operating temperature. With the few flashes, flooding is basically a non-issue. Since you have an 05, you should already have the uprated battery and stronger starter. Owners of 04's should get these by complaining to the dealer. They are being replaced free of charge via a 'silent recall'.



I got my 04 in August 2004 and it has never flooded in 21k miles, including many short trips. I have always warmed the engine up and rev'ed it to 3k before cutting the ignition. The new starter and battery make a big difference in how fast the car starts though.

just keep an eye on the oil level and do as they said, warm it up or rev it before killing the key
