I sellt he greddy RX-8, haven't heard it yet though.

racing beat claims you can't get that much HP gain out of the RX-8, even with a straight pipe and aftermarket exhaust. but, whatever, sounds good and seems fast.

RX7Aggie 03-08-2004 12:28 AM

but, they do have dyno charts to back it up...

man, just think about gains like that coupled with forced induction. i'll take 5 rx-8's then.

RX7Aggie 03-08-2004 12:31 AM

from racing beat:

The following table lists the measured power gains from various aftermarket components. Testing has been conducted on the Racing Beat engine dyno with both pre-production and production Renesis engines.

1. Intake – enlarging the oval inlet to the factory air box - +2 HP (this modification eliminates the VFAD intake duct.) Developmental work is still being undertaken.

2. Headers – approximately 4 HP peak power gain.

3. Mufflers – muffler & connecting pipe - 2-3 HP.

4. Removing the muffler from the car (engine) – about 4 HP.

5. Remove catalytic converter and resonator from the engine completely, and replacing with "cat" replacement tube – max benefit 8 HP – regardless of what muffler is used (or even no muffler).

"The muffler "off" will yield about 4 HP, with a very loud exhaust note. With it "off" the car, the noise is unbelievable! We find 2-3 HP peak RPM maximum improvement from our exhaust, or any competitive system that we have tested. So someone can see from these numbers, it is quite difficult to get a lot more HP from this engine. The max potential with a header and race exhaust would be around 10HP."

make you wonder how rotary performance can get 12 more hp than racing beat...

RX7Aggie 03-08-2004 12:35 AM

this racing beat exhaust combo might be cheaper, though. looks similar in setup as the rx-7.com stuff, only 12 hp lower?!?!

something aint adding up

I have a MP with Borla system and it rocks at high rpm and with an intake it really gets loud https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683473.gif

vs stock at

Taken with a digi cam so excuse the quality but it does give ya an idea. A little louder and deeper than stock unless your WOT, then it's noisy in the high RPM range, 90Db if I remember right.

RB claims very low numbers for the 8, yet other companies that have decent reputations have claimed higher numbers and shown some dyno charts for them. But your best bet for a 8 right now is a e-manage and tuning as that, mixed with a new firmware version for the car's ECU (currently version L) and a good tuning map have given almost 40HP (37 at last dyno with stock intake, Borla exhaust)
