Took the car in for the emissions recall. doesn't sound like I need a new engine, apparently I need a new intake manifold. Unfortunately it's backordered, so I'm stuck with a rental Hunadi Sonata until next week.

I'd been putting off taking the car in for the recall work (been tough to try to schedule when I can take it in) but the CEL light came on over the weekend, and was the final push to just get it done.

Anyone else hear about cracked manifolds?

eta is 12/26, of course mazda is closed so actual arrival time will be a little late

I knew I had reasons for hating plastic.

Huh...sounds like it's a fairly common problem, since it sounds like you're waiting for one as well, j9?

If so, can you tell me what the common failure part is? My curiosity has the better of me, after all.

nah we're not waiting for one, i just looked up the MT part numbers, and the lower is on backorder til 12/26....

i'm not sure what breaks, the lower is aluminum.

I had not heard of it, and had not read of it anywhere before. Probably just a fluke, it happens. My front main seal was leaking, and no one had ever had that problem before either.

Short update, in case anyone's still interested. Got the car back with the new intake manifold, and CEL came on again as we were leaving the dealership. Took it back the next day, come to find out the O2 sensor has an intermittant fault, but again no parts in stock. Driving around now with the light on until an O2 sensor is available, and will have to take it back again.

Some days I almost wish the car wasn't still under warranty, and I could just do this myself...

j9fd3s 01-04-2007 12:04 PM

yeah, kinda lame, but at least its free... o2 sensor is $304.85 (!)

Sivart_R1 01-04-2007 01:52 PM

I wish I could say I was surprised, but over the years of owning Mazda's, it takes more than a $300+ O2 sensor.

Oh, and j9, you may not call me betty...

Would you be his bodyguard though?
