I am throwing around the idea of selling my now wrecked 1994 RX-7. The damage is to the driver’s side rear quarter area but it is quite extensive. All interior bits, driveline bits and body panels forward of the rear quarter area seem unaffected and the car still runs great. The car is located in Roanoke, VA.

I purchased this car in December of 2001 from the original owner. I had wanted a 3rd generation RX-7 for a number of years and had looked for this particular car for close to six months, browsing all available classified resources everyday. When I saw the add I immediately called the owner, spoke with him about the car and arranged for pick-up. Two weeks later I drove over 400 miles to pick-up the car in an enclosed car trailer and bring it back to my house.

This manual transmission 1994 Mazda RX-7 PEG edition with Vintage Red paint and tan leather interior was purchased with 9,979 original miles and now has approximately 11,200 original miles. All paperwork on this car is kept and documented in an array of folders spanning from the time of its initial purchase in 1995 as a left over 1994 model to the time of its being wrecked this past October, 2003.

Before this car was purchased I had the original owner’s local Mazda dealer review the car, its condition and validate its status. The results sent to me showed a car in the stated condition, like-new, along with Mazda compression test results that showed 9.1, 9.0, 9.0 on the front rotor at 241 RPM and 8.7, 9.0, 8.9 at 241 RPM on the rear rotor. These tests were performed at 9,979 miles.

This car was perfect in every way, shape and form and still remains that way…forward of the rear quarter. :] It was shown it frequently in local automobile shows and has the first place trophies to prove its concours condition. Anyone that knows me, including the local Mazda technician, one of very few that are Mazdaspeed certified in the state of Virginia, can vouch for the car’s condition and the care that was given to it. Every remaining “good” portion of the car is in like-new condition including the tan leather driver’s seat which shows no sign of wear.

I had added few modifications of which I still have the stock counterparts for. These additions include: Fluidyne radiator, M2 downpipe, Blitz Nur-Spec cat-back, R2 strut tower bar, R2 rear spoiler, R2 front spoiler, Amsoil synthetic transmission and differential fluids, modified pill restriction (to keep boost at stock levels), Pettit column mount gauge pod, Autometer “New” style electric boost gauge ($200.00 retail, not the cheap one), Widefoot swaybar mounts, C’s shortshifter, Pettit AST, Pettit grounding kit and K&N replacement drop-in filter. Again, I have all stock parts that came off of this car.

If this car does not sell at the price of $8,000.00 I will keep it, as it is not critical for me to do so. I feel that this car would make the perfect donor car for someone with a blown motor, tired drivetrain or to simply refurbish their existing car.

Thank you.

While it is, in fact, repairable, I really do not want to have to deal with what would become an ongoing battle between myself, my insurance company and the body shop that would perform the repairs.

I still have two other RX-7's. Just none as nice as this one once was. :]

The car is located in Roanoke, VA.

Have you gotten any estimates on it? What about structural damage? Frame bent at all? Suspension pieces out of alignment? Or is it mosly just cosmetic (bumper, 1/4 panels, lights, etc.)?

Mazderati 01-20-2004 10:54 AM

The only estimates I have on the car have come from the estimators hired by the insurance company. Although slight, the chassis is, in fact, twisted and would need to be pulled. The driver's side rear suspension will need to be adjusted, as it has been pushed forward probaby two inches or so. In sum, the damage is not simply cosmetic.

ah, the old twisted frame....its a real bitch to sneak around...

Hopefully, that was not an attempt to make a slight about my representation of the car and its condition.
