Looking for a good running NA motor for my 88. I don't want to rebuild. I'm not sure if s4 and s5 matters for na motors or not as far as the ecu and wiring are concerned. I'm in PA but will pay to be shipped if not outrageous price.

I have a s5 engine, 30k, 8+ compression. $800. R&L will quote you a shipping price, from 32547, residental pick up, 280lbs on a skid.

S5 and S4 are different, wiring harness is different, ECU, OMP, coolant filler neck.

Ok well I want a S4 for sure then because I don't wanna go through all that. A guy locally offered me one for 750 but couldn't tell me if it was S4 or S5...how can you tell? Just look at the wiring?

you add your intake, injectors, wiring harnes, an engine does not know. The S5 has higher compression and a 8k red line.

Sounds easy to some people, some people it does not. That is alot of work to only get two things out of it, and a little bit more HP.

All you have to do is look at the coolant filler neck, if it is on there. S4 is metal, S5 is plastic. Also look at the manifolds, they are different between the two. I don't have pictures of it, but there are some on here. If you plan on buying that motor, get a compression test done on it, don't shell out 750 for a broke motor.

True. The engine is stripped down to long block. I have been keeping it as a spare for either car. I find it easier to install a long block and then build it up in the car. When you need an engine, its a lot of work, 4 hours to remove and 8 to install.

What's R&L? I looked up shipping on UPS and it was like 600 bucks, I'm going to look at this guy's motor locally and get back to you unless shipping is under 200 bucks for yours...and I don't know much about installing a rotary but I can read and follow directions so it shouldn't be too much trouble...

Unless you want to trade a 86 Regal for it lol

Yeah, it took about 3.5 hours to pull one. It was smashed in the front end, and I pulled it with the transmission attached. Those bolts are too much of a pain in the ass to get undone. My hands are too big.

Good luck on your search, the only thing you have to worry about is making sure the wiring is all right, everything else is pretty much a drop in if you are using the same motor. Replace the motor mounts though!! You will be glad that they are fresh ones. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.gif
