Hmmm yeah I would like to know this as well, and what is all involved.... |
i was just looking around for transmission prices for the supra, and a used one is about 4-5 times the price of a used fd transmission, the cost of the bell housing, and a custom driveshaft.
could be an expensive project |
T56 would be a much better option in my opinion. They are alot cheeper and easier to come by. |
I already have a transmisson from an 89 supra that i want to use (from what i hear these are good trannys)

found this....
MAZDA ROTARY TO BORG WARNER T-5 KEP # 9000 Adapter kit fits most manual shift '74+ Mazda Rotary bellhousings to the Borg-Warner T-5 transmission (from the Ford Mustang GT '85+). The Mazda flywheel, clutch, starter and throwout bearing are retained. A Ford disc must be used. The T-5 transmission that is normally slanted 18º must now be mounted vertical. Kit includes adapter plate, bolts, pilot bearing and instructions. |
I found this in pac performance and emailed them but i have not gotten any information on how to order and and how much for shipping and what year supra transmission it would fit .I have to give them a call about it when i have time. This is the site http://www.pacperformance.com.au/content/l...ter_Plates.aspx

not sure if a t5 is a worthwhile swap, they aren't exactly the strongest transmissions.

wouldn't a T56 work with that Kennedy kit ?

I have a celica/supra aluminum adaptor for the Toyota W series transmissions W57, W58 & a complete tranny.....
(I think it may fit a R154 out of the 87-93 Turbo Supra & R154F from a Toyota V6 1 ton 2wd truck, i currently have one for 4-sale) $450.00 takes both. We have been using these combos these for years. All you need is a bellhousing for your desired flywheel. I am looking for the IRON case W50 tranny and adaptor if somone has one. they came from 1971-1981 celica 18R @ 20R, truck & 1st gen supras. i wanted to do a R154 trans as they seem really strong but they have a pull clutch instead of a push
but you have a r154 and adaptor plate for sale ? if you do i'll take it... |
why not change to a stronger tranny?
|
Vosko
I have a R154F and driveshaft from a V6 1ton truck. I like these because the input shaft is huge..i would say similar to a ford or chevy powerglide...And you will have to use your bellhousing and fork so it will be hydrolic. .. I will check to see if the adaptor it fits..pm me later in the week.
cost is a big issue and toyota trans shift like butter instead of mazda and ford trannies https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/bigok.gif |
It's just an idea, but why not go with a Greddy(Quaife) 6 speed dog box? it uses the factory tranny case and rotaryextreme sells them. I don't know what kind of power they can handle, but it is a Quaife trans so it has to be good.
$6,900 on rotaryextreme.com, and it's dog engagement as well so no need to let off the gas to shift. . .full boost from first to sixth. If you're going to sink a few grand into a transmission, you might as well get one that offers more than just an extra gear. But hey that's just my opinion. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683664.gif |
