I want to build a steam powered rotary engine for a school project. I thought it would be neat to make one of the side housings clear. I'm not sure what would work though. Maybe like a 3/4" sheet of glass or maybe a strong plastic that won't scratch to easily. Do any of you have any suggestions?

how bout acrylic? you can easily mold it........ or if you get something thick enough, you can drill and polish the inside and use that as your housing

i would stay away from glass...

acrylic might work. if you get this to work, let us know how you did it..=)

acrylic might get too soft once the hot steam you're using comes in contact with it though

maybe have a glass interior and an acrylic exterior...who the hell knows

Just curious, how did this school project go? That is if it went through..

well it's still in the process of getting it started i have until the end of the school year (May 25) to do it but I want to get it started ASAP. First I gotta get my T2 up and running. The junkyrad with my old car would sell me my old eninge for 600 bucks complete and they'd throw in the RB full exhaust and it would all be taken out and shipped to my house.

$600 is still a pretty penny. Hopfully my P's would help out financially a little considering it is a school project. I'll definitely get another post up when this is done with pics (maybe a video) and all.

Thanks for the ideas guys.

Good to hear.

So, being steam powered, are you going to use the same configuration as a Mazda rotary, just have intake and exhaust ports on both sides?
