Still got a ways to go, working on the intake manifold right now. Should be fun https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.gif

Well I ran into a lot of problems while trying to tune the car, after a lot of reworking the system I've got it pretty well dialed in. My god is this thing down right scary. Thank god I was able to do a few pulls before swapping to the right jets. The throttle cable stuck on me, and I went for the ride of my life. We're going to try and get some videos in action at the dunes, unfortunately its been raining....

U know when i had my sandrail with a vw engine on it I had to rebuild the engine every season, there was no way to keep the sand out, Im thinking the rotary would be less likely to bite it seeing as it is a little tighter tolerance then the vw's

Buggies are awesome to work on. There is so much room and everything is out in the open compared to a car! Here is the last one I did at the *other* place...

Nice work Dave. Yeah I really dig working on these, so easy to work on, not to mention the heat is so low since its not trapped in a box.
Well I tried to tune the thing out in the dirt, and it just spins tires in every gear. Going to the dyno Thursday. Gotta love the power to weight ratio though, man 5psi feels like most single Rx-7s at 15+.. |
YEAH!!THOSE THINGS ARE AWESOME!!!
|
Along time later I finally figured out a lot of problems on this car, redid the engine, and most of the carb/ignition setup. Almost there!
|
God that has to be stupid fun lol! Nice, I like it.

Very nice toy..... https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.gif

Imean w/ this combo...
Not sure what you're asking? I can make this stuff again if thats what you want... |
I kinda of forgot about this project;
I ended up blowing a complete chunk out of the rear iron on the dyno, sprayed like 8 quarts of oil on the wall of the dyno. I heard the piece brake and instantly let off. No damage to the motor, got a late 91' reinforced iron on the motor, studded it and I've been waiting for the owner to come pickup the motor.. Its on video too... |
I am working on an offroad race project and want to put a n/a 13b but have been told by other forum members that sand will be a problem, just like in vw's.
Since you have been workign on sand cars, do you believe that to be a problem if I redirect the airflow. I plan on building a truggy, so the engine will be close to the middle and was thinking of using air deflectors to be able to keep the sand and dirt off the engine. I believe sand to be a worst problem on turbos. I will appreciate your opinion? |
what about the plastic meshy like socks that they make for dirt track go-karts? would they filter fine enough to keep the sand out?

I believe sand to be a worst problem on turbos. I will appreciate your opinion? You just have to pay close attention to the details. Its not really an issue. I would run a fuel injected turbo engine at least. I have this sandrail running again. I can post a photo of the intake setup, it uses a sock as mentioned.. |
I finally got this vehicle back on the dyno for some more tuning. It made 282 ft #s of torque only revving to 4300rpms @ 11psi. Not bad for starters. I had to pull it off and make some air bleed adjustments.. Going back wednesday.

what trans is that?
|
Its a Mendeola, its an offroad racing tranny.
|
Finally done, going to the dunes next week.
I backed off on the tune and made 418rwhp @ 7500pms. Has more in it, but the owner said its more than enough @ around 1600lbs https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.gif |
that's going to be frighteningly fast lol
|
|
bump for new guy
|
Very nice i think i would hurt myself with that in my sanddragster!

Nice to see fellow sand duners with a rotary powered rail. I also have one, a 2 seater. I mostly go to Dumont dunes and hit Glamis about once a year. Mine is a turbo with fuel injection. 10 lbs of boost and the car is wicked fast. I can't link any photos from work but I can link a youtube video ( go figure, Gov computer). My car is the red 2 seater. The video has it from a few different angles later in the video. My car is also going to be on the cover and Mr January of the American Sand Association (ASA) 2011 calendar. You can see the pictures on my website if you like, fe135.com, look about 3 rows down for ASA calendar. Here is the video
