I know that NSU made a motorcycle with a rotary, but that was WAYYY back in tha day. I was wondering if anyone knows of anyone attempting this, or if anyone has done it before?? It will obviously be Hard as F#CK to do, but it will be a pimp bike..lol

imagine one of them old Kawi GPZ1100 frames or Suzuki GS1100 frames with a 13bT...lmao.

dont think you could fit one in even a busa chassis....?

Yes a company named Norton makes them, they are loud as hell. don't know the size on the motor, but there are some out there.

I think I remember seeing a 1 rotor motor on the Atkins rotary site:

LOL, I dunno if a busa chasis could possibly go any faster https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png

You could always turbocharge it.

phinsup 01-10-2002 05:11 PM

I know of a couple with turbo busa's... not rotary though.

Turbocharging that thing takes guts, well at least riding one. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

LOL, I rode a busa for a short distance not too long ago when I went on a ride with a group, normally I don't ride other people's bikes and no one ever rides mine, but he was like pushing me to do it so I did. 0-60, my bike pulls hard, **** you hit 60 and that ******* busa comes alive. 60-150 see ya!!!

YucA 01-10-2002 07:18 PM

there is one busa round here thats all hooked up for dragging. Holy **** that thing ****** dips. one of his friends has a turboed out busa. all i can say is NASTY!!!! i think its boosting about 7psi. max boost at about 12. He said he tried it once at 10, and when the turbo would spool in third gear it would pull so much that it would wanna flip...hes on crack.... Yoshimura made a Limited edition Busa, that was special order and all hooked up by them...one sweet bike... X1-R or something like that...

your right about the Norton...i actually got a pic of that bike, at least the old ones... Never knew they still made them.=)

DKW was another i know that. They were hand in hand somewhat with NSU...

I believe Suzuki made a single rotor bike. I think it was called an SE5 or something like that. You see them for sale once in a while. I remember going into a Suzuki dealership about 20 years ago and seeing one, really different looking. It was like a touring bike, but with a small rotary engine.

Hi all. I'm back again with more technical BS!! Hey wdwflash you were so close! Suzuki's bike was called the RE5. Obviously the RE is the rotary engine and the 5 signified the capacity. It came in at 499cc and was a single rotor engine sporting only one spark plug but unfortunately wasn't a success due to being quite heavy and QUITE underpowered compared to it's 3 cyls, two strokes of it's day. My local Tech. college has one for show and I had a chance to throw the leg over and take it for a spin in the car park. It wasn't slow but I certaining wouldn't say it was exhilarating!! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

Here is a pic I found on the net.http://www.allenmuseum.com/images/re5_blue.jpg

Hey all. Hey Isamu, that's the one alright!! I knew I had some more bike info laying around. So I suppose this is tehcnical BS 2!! 1974 was the first release of the RE5 and it was updated in 1976 under the name of RE5A. Basically most of the changes were styling related, different guages and the like. I've got times of a quarter mile time of 13.9 seconds and 0 to 60mph of 5.3 seconds. The one I rode didn't feel that fast but it didn't do a lot of work.

Yamaha played with the rotary idea in 1972 with a bike called the RZ-201. It had a twin rotor engine with a 660cc capacity. Their other bike was called a W2000 which was a single rotored engine with a capacity of 294cc. I'm not sure if either of the bikes ever made it production or were merely prototypes.

Norton/Triumph's effort in the rotary era was a twin rotored engine with a capacity of 588cc but I'm unsure of it's codename.

Van Veen had one of the largest capacity rotors of the early bikes. It came in at almost a litre from two rotors and was called the OCR-1000.

If anyone has any other technical info I'm more than interested in a read!! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

Theres a site that offers info on 2 different rotary bikes. The Suzuki RE5 and a german made one.Rotary Reycle

Norton made a racing bike that was a rotary > it one isle of man i know that. I also know it hooned, had a top speed of well over 300kmph, and had 180hp.

It total blew away all the racing ducati's, and all them. As far as i can remember the rotor was about the size of a fist. It was N/A and had 2 rotors.
