I have my Suzuki running pretty well. I hope to get a run or two this next week with the G-Tech on it to see what it will do. It feels like a 13 sec ride. With the NOS it should do 12's (YeHaw)... But I don't have my 6 ports hooked up yet (they are wired open) so it feels a little low short on power below 2500. It definately wants to pull right past the redline. With the 5.13 rear gears it's pretty quick shifting in 1st and 2nd. I broke my speedo cable last week so I have no sense of speed.

I was thinking about going with an electric speedometer, But according to AutoMeter, they don't make something that will work with the Mazda Transmission. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/angry.png

For those who haven't seen it.... Take a 1990 Suzuki Sidekick with a blown motor (They are known for spining bearings). Yank all the running gear and replace it with a 13B and transmission from a RX7. Well that's what I started a few years ago. I orginally was going to keep the 4 wheel drive and Mazda EFI electronics. But it was much easier to dump both.

Good work.http://www.plauder-smilies.com/happy/xyxthumbs.gif You may want to try VDO for a speedometer. Intellitronix(now Norksdog) makes sppedometers as well.

Either of these work with the Mazda Transmission?

I wanted to keep the factory gauges, but I think I am way beyond keeping it factory looking... I have a big ol' shift light on the dash with guages for my vitals (oil pressure, water temp and A/F mixture).

I decided today I will be looking for new seats.

If you want it to work you should be able to make it work. Most of those are universal. I've seen RX-7's with Autometer speedometers.

Probably the mechanical series. I emailed Autometer and they said they work with electronic sending units in most of the newer cars, They said if it has a cable drive they have a universal sending unit but it is not metric, which I assume the Mazda is.

You could probably rethread the hole for standard.

Well I drove down to a truck scale to get a weight of my Zuki. I was a little disapointed. 2400 lbs is the weight with 2/3 tank of gas and the hardtop on. I was hoping to be closer to 2200.

So now I am wondering, what is the weight of a RX7? Not the curb weight... but has anyone weighed theirs?

I had planed to make a few G-Tech runs, The damn thing wouldn't turn on. I checked the fuse and it was good. So I drove back and tried it in another car, still nothing. After about an hour I tried it again and it works. WTF

So maybe tomorrow I will get some decent runs. I plan to head to the local drags this summer (an hour a way) and get some good runs on the bottle. I'm shooting for a 12 sec 1/4. But I think I am dreaming as I am 200+ heaver than my projected weight.

Looks like 2003 will have to be the year of the Turbo for my little project.

Got my G-TECH working...

The Cigerette plug has 2 little plastic tabs on it. Not sure of their purpose but they lock the spring down and kep it from making contact. I cut them off and it works fine again.

ILUVMY88CABRIO 06-02-2002 03:39 PM

The weight of a rx7 is anywhere from about 2600 lbs. to 3200 lbs depending on the year and model.

yayarx7 06-03-2002 12:37 AM

you probably started with a 160 horse motor if you got a 13b(stock).

Did you go with a Haltech and eliminate the AFM?

What kind of exhaust?

with minimal mods you should be able to get into the high 13's with the haltech and a good exhaust probably low 13's, maybe even low 12's with enough traction and good driving and a very well tuned engine.

Good Luck and sweet ride.

I finally found my exhaust leak this weekend when I removed the last of the 4WD (I did a brake job and swapped out the front 4WD spindles for 2WD). I noticed one of my header bolts was loose. Not the nut missing loose, but loose enough that when I tightened it, my motor is much more quiet and I don't have the ticking noise I had been previously plaged with.

I upped my Redline to 8000 RPM. From 4000-8000 it feels pretty strong. So much so that in the shift from 1st to 2nd gear @ redline it seems to JUMP forward. I haven't had a problem yet with traction. The 235/50-15's seem to be gripping quit well.

I do have one problem with my driveline... It seems it is too long. When I go over a bump I can hear the transmission bind (Yikes!). I hope to have that fixed this week. When I measured the driveline I hadn't yet lowered it... and now it is shorter. This wasn't a problem until I removed the bumpstops so I could a better ride. It rides nice now and I think I will be ready to paint it soon and move to the interior.

Driveline is fixed. It was the dustcup on the front of the driveline that was hitting the transmission over serious bumps. I removed it and took off 3/8" and I now have plenty of clearance. Took it for a spin and it's not even close. I didn't find all this out until I removed the bumpstops

I'll post my next HP rating after I get my driveline back.

Re-weighed without the top and I'm sitting right at 2300 lbs. Well no top and the 4WD hubs gone.

G-Tech still says 120 HP. Had some wheel spin in 1st and 2nd. It runs great, but I think I need some serious tunning. The exhaust smell is horrible....

K&N right on the end if the intake, No AFM at all. Removed the 2nd butterflys. 2-1/2" exhaust all the way back. RB Header to a Presilencer to a DynoFlow Muffler. That was too loud so I added another cheap turbo muffler at the rear. I plan to replace that with a Supertrapp.

Pretty sweet man!!! :bigok:

MAD props dac. Really glad to hear everything is turning out good in that thing. when ur done tuning it, i wanna see dyno runs!!!! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

When you're done I want to drive down to Portland, and ride in that thing! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

hehehe...reminds me of that pharcyde song "Oh ****"

dac 06-16-2002 07:28 PM

Hopefully this summer I'll do some runs at the strip.

That would be the time to ride... https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png
