its about 250 miles away. wondering what i should have the guy check to make sure it makes it all the way home. he said the transmission cooler lines are loose so hes going to fix that for me. its a 73, and he says hes never driven it for more than 10 minutes at a time. so what should i have him check out?

Things to look at, things to look at...
It spent alot of time sitting, so I think you should drain the fuel lines, replace them (if their shite) along with the fuel filter and put fresh fuel in, replace all the coolant hoses (he said hed do that so its all good) brake pads, check see if the brake lines are good, flush those put fresh fluid in them. Same goes with the coolant, replace with fresh coolant they might just replace it with the old stuff. Get a new rad cap. OIL CHANGE! Grease all the grease points. Because he ONLY drove around 10 minutes at a time, alot of this **** is neglected because the mileage never racked up enough to justify doing it. And I bet the wipers are still stock, replace those as well. Check tranny, diff oil as well top up or replace if necessary...AIR FILTER too... I believe thats all! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/bigok.gif |
Wow I didn't know he's never driven it for more than 10 minutes at a time. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub..._DIR#>/sad.png
Sounds like one hell of a carboned up motor! |

Yeah but still all that says to me is "This motor is carboned up like a **********er". And if he drove it longer then woo.

the grease joints = ???

Never run for more than 10 minutes might also mean that the owner is trying to claim he knows nothing about it overheating...
Check very carefully for corroded housings. Run it with the rad cap off till it's warm and look for the bubbles OR signs of Seal-up radiator type stuff. Good luck. |
I wouldnt give a damn if it was reliable or not. I'd buy it anyways. How often do you find RX-2's? Get a buddy with a truck, rent a uhaul trailer for 60 bux, and go tow that thing back!

Not sure, but zerk fitting/the grease fittings should be in the service manual
