13b Miata Swap
6 Attachment(s)
Good Evening!
My name is Shawn. I am 26 years old and reside in Las Vegas, NV. I have NEVER been a fan of rotary engines due to the fact of them having a "bad rep" but now that i am researching them; they seem pretty decent :] I understand the "concept" of how they operate, but in theory, i have no clue what the **** i am doing when it comes to them. The other day, i picked up an N/A 13b for a price that i could NOT turn down. People are saying its an s4?..... no clue what that means. I do not know the year it came out of. I scored it for $100. TONS of oil/sludge all along the outside of it, looks as if the rear main seal is done for. I have not ran a compression test yet because i don't have access to an rx7 bellhousing, however, the engine seems to be putting out some hefty puffs so im assuming its all good. Only time will tell. https://www.nopistons.com/attachment...ine=1449213578 I am familiar with what goes into an engine swap as i have a v8 miata right now that i am twin supercharging. The swap will not be the issue here; it is getting familiar with the engine. This was my old chassis with the naturally aspirated v8: VIDEO: http://vid418.photobucket.com/albums...psj5ewkt0l.mp4 https://www.nopistons.com/attachment...ine=1449213578 And this is the new chassis where i am twin supercharging it: https://www.nopistons.com/attachment...ine=1449213578 https://www.nopistons.com/attachment...ine=1449213578 Plans are to turbo it with e85/meth to keep egt's down. I have a Garrett VGT gt37? if i recall that i can use on it. Getting the VGT solenoid to work properly will be the issue. I want to run a Megasquirt unit just because it is financially friendly. This will HOPEFULLY make it possible to control the VGT via TPS sensor [potentiometer], however my throttle body doesn't have one..... I was looking online and some do, some don't..... again i will have to get familiar with the engine. Modifying the subframe shouldn't be too big of an issue. Cut, box, tube the front and rebuild the steering rack mounts. I will need to cut a little bit of the oil pan and rebuild it for clearance i think. As for engine mounts; I was thinking about solid mounting it, but peoples opinions have swayed my decision a little bit and now i will probably run some poly mounts. Adapting the miata's transmission will be easy; all i need to do is get ahold of an RX7 bellhousing and mill the miata's input shaft because from what i read, the splines are a little too long. As for the car..... I got the car with intentions to part it out, but i began to bond with it, chop it up a little bit and started to fall in love lol. In the end, i decided to keep it. It SHOULD be ~1600lbs with a full tank of gas and me inside of it. It will be literally a rolling cage; something a little like this: https://www.nopistons.com/attachment...ine=1449213578 Here is the current chop on it as it sits today: https://www.nopistons.com/attachment...ine=1449213578 http://i418.photobucket.com/albums/p...psnrfqwuwc.jpg I have TONS of questions; just no idea where to begin; so i'll ask as we go. Ill update the build whenever new things happen with it. I will also provide a bunch of pictures for help with other builds. I hope you guys enjoy the build and im looking forward to speaking with you! |
