Damage to the front thrust washer after lightly striking the rear counterweight with a breaker bar to help remove it (while using the puller). ONLY use a puller to remove the flywheel, any striking will damage the thrust surfaces.

Did you measure end play before that engine was taken apart?

The only time I have seen that in a motor is when I was setting turning the motor over w/ a socket and rachet to realine the CAS from being out, and I forgot to remove the rachet and socket before trying to start the vehicle. Boy I guarantee that will never happen agian. I triple check for tools before starting motors now. Nothing like doing work twice. After that I had amost the same look you have there. I threw away the spacer so I could forget that moment.

Ive banged off a bunch of flywheels with a hammer and have yet to see that happen.

I would suspect an endplay issue or perhaps the thrust warrrsher was put on backwards.



I normally smack the flywheel w/ a deadblow hammer around three quadrants to get it to "break free". No problems at all.

Just a reminder for those who havent heard it before. Make sure you put the flywheel nut partially back on, just not touching the flywheel before you bang it off. The last thing you want is someone losing a toe when the flywheel falls off the engine.

i have seen that befor, it happended when a customer had taken his front cover off with the moter still in the car, when he put the front cover back on the nedle bearings behind the spacer sliped down and got pinched when he re tq the front bolt.

I use a giant rubber hammer. Works like a charm.
