Hi again guys



Im building another engine, using new side seals. 12A engine, street ported, cermet housings, EFI, and n/a for the moment. Maybe, just maaaybe in a distant future, low boost.



I already trimmed them to the point the bind with the corner seal and move together if you press down on the corner seal



I remember I read a long time ago about zero clearance, but was unable to find the thread again.



Im not going to build the short block until next saturday so, enlight me. Should I keep it this way, or should I go with 0,0025?

That was probably me.



Not tight, just zero end clearance. No bind at all. Testing by pushing both side seals and the corner seal down at once just makes sense. They all touch the iron at the same elevation.



The side seal is pushed around the engine by one side of each corner seal. As soon as the engine starts, a wear groove starts to form on the corner seals. Until the seals wear out a bit, they touch both sides of each corner seal.



Compression sealing is very good, and even with one piece seals hot starts are after one revolution. Street engines need the first revolution to find the missing tooth. So street engines need two revolutions. Probably not good for turbo engines as the extra heat will make the side seals a bit longer. Proably need at least one or two thousandths, .001"-.002"

You could also cut a small slot in the corner seal and use zero clearance.

It looks like a really good idea. You would want it on the leading end of the seal.



Your machinist would have to be very advanced. I would not do it in the later seals.



I use only the early solid seals.
