Just thought i'd let you all in on how the progress of my rebuild is going..

Today I finally got the engine back together in short block form and so far so good!



I turned it over by hand (well with the help of a 19mm spanner..) and it has some pretty damm good sounding compression! Much more than there was before I blew it, when I thought then it felt like it had good compression then!

I can't wait to get it back in the car now, just waiting on a few small things like flywheel nut and new gearbox.



So another week or two and it should be in!



Hopefully it will run good, I reused a few parts I probably shouldn't have (namely one rotor that was a bit dented), but im poor and needed the car back on the road ASAP. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

and like I said so far it certainly sounds like it has quite damm good compression, so im pretty stoked.

I can't wait to rebuild my next engine so I can NOT do the same mistakes with this one, because im sure i've made a few, which I will hopefully start soon.

Also do you guys think it's a good idea to prime the whole oil sysem by turning over the oil pump on it's own before I connect the chain drive to it? Or will the assembly lube i've used be enough?

What is usually recommended is pulling the EGI fuses in the fuse thing on the drivers side shock tower, then cranking the engine over for about 30 seconds or so until it shws some oil pressure. If it doesn't you definately do not want that engine starting.

Yeah i've heard of that way rx7_re, but I was just wanting to get some more oil on the bearings before I turned the engine over .. but yeah I just realised that my idea wouldn't work, because, duh, you'd have to have the front cover off, and where does the oil go? the front cover.. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png



Oh well.. was an idea..

cranking it for about 10 seconds is enouf, you shoudl always use assembly lube on teh bearings when building motors.

Yeah I did use assembly lube, I was just figuring the more the merrier. But I guess I can't do that.



Grr.. I just wish this flywheel nut would get here already..... I havn't driven my Rx for nearly 4months now :(

Crank it with the plugs out until your oil pressure guage moves. I cranked mine 10-15 seconds a few times untill the oil had a chance to work itself through the cooler and filter. Then when it wouldn't read any higher on the guage (40PSI or whatever), I threw the plugs in and it started to fire within the first two seconds of cranking and then ran pretty well on the choke. I did make one mistake though. I forgot to add some sealant to the legs on one side of a rotor housing. I haven't looked very closely, but I don't think any oil is seeping up between the housing and plate yet. I hope this other engine I'm currently rebuilding turns out as well as the first one.
