Hows it going guys. I have an 87 mazda rx7 non turbo and i've come to a problem! It seems that i've had an antifreeze leak and whenever i had added more it would fill up the resivor and then leak out of it. Then when i was driving and put the pedal all the way down when I got to around 4k it wouldn't go any further then it would and hesitate again for a few sec.! When I have it in neutral i could put the pedal to the floor and rev it up just fine and when im in gear if the pedal is half way down it will go to redline no problem. So then I got my antifreeze tested and it has carbon minoxied in it. Also there are bubbles comming from my thermostat. But the car has remained constantly cool!

Some people tell me that the o ring on the water seal is busted and I have to rebuild my entire engine and not just replace the O ring! Then some people tell me that its the rotor head gasket and that i've got to replace that, but im not sure if there is one on a rx7. Or maybe i've just got antifreeze on my spark plugs?

Please anything will help!

you need to replace that water jacket o-ring/housing but in doing so you must take the entire engine apart to do so. if you have the budget to take on a rebuild then check out a factory service manual and/or the atkins rebuild video to help give you an idea of what all is need to do so properly. otherwise good luck and ask any other q's you have.

Do I have to rebuild the engine? Is the water jacket O ring and the rotor housing the same thing, How do I find Out which one it is and last is it expensive to buy the part(do you have any suggestions on where I should get them at)?

Thanks alot,

To fix it properly means a rebuild...

You however sound like you don't want to go down that particular route just yet..

You could add some chemiweld(brand name..) or any other sort of 'block-weld' to your cooling systrem (follow directions on the bottle) and that could quite possibly fix it for months.

yea, these collant O-rings are inbetween the plates of iron and aluminum which make up the engine. These O-rings seal out the coolant from entering the combustion chamber and alternately from leaking on the outside of the housing. the only real way to fix it is to take the engine out and rebuild it. Block sealer may work for you in this situation, but I would use it only as a temporary fix.
